A weekend-only treat starting today, we’ve got sourdough sticky buns with maple sauce and crunchy seeds— as I type this this still warm from the oven. Come get them, Saturdays and Sundays until they run out!

Gâteau basque with local rhubarb compote and luscious vanilla bean pastry cream. Lots of other changes coming to our daily menu here to reflect the arrival of spring and farmers markets 💐 Kicking it off with this classic!

The Moreno Brothers: Miguel, Mario, Danny, Jesus, Gerardo, and Olvin inherited their farms from their father Daniel, who divided it in lots for each son. Together, the Morenos built a wet mill, raised beds, and solar dryers to process and prepare specialty coffee. The Moreno family helps and motivates other farmers to produce and prepare better quality with the sharing of their knowledge and facilities.

We’re generous people here at Prequel Cafe, and that means you can look forward to a HEALTHY squiggle of dulce de leche on top of our new roasted banana bostock 🍌 featuring pecan frangipane and house made brioche!

The 7am light means we’re about to hit season…

New to the pastry case! 🍄 🌱 Mushroom puff pastry tart with béchamel sauce, topped with a generous handful of arugula and a dusting of parmesan. We hand-laminate our puff pastry in house (duh) and promise that you WILL get flaky pastry shards all over the place. We also promise it’s worth it.

New coffee available by the bag from , now in the shop! This natural Ethiopian has tasting notes of rosewater and watermelon candy, and it’s the perfect delicate cup to start your day. 🍬

Our sandwiches are made fresh in-house daily and are the perfect lunch option! Come post up with your laptop, a book, or a friend and wait out the rainy season with us 🌧

Try our Shaken Shamrock— a frothy iced matcha shaken with mint-basil syrup and topped with dark chocolate shavings— or our poptart special, featuring flaky dough filled with strawberry jam and topped with tiny marshmallow shapes!

Side note, now that Chicago vaccine and mask mandates have been lifted, you can expect that our employees will continue to be masked for the time being and we will continue to stock extra masks for those who wish to wear them. Please continue to be respectful!

The “warm” weather may have been short-lived, but hot drink season lives to see another day! Add a house-made honey lavender jumbo marshmallow to any drink; it’s the perfect antidote to see you through the rest of the chilly season. 🥶 Especially good in hot chocolate: available with whole, skim, soy, or oat milk!

Want to learn how to brew coffee like the pros? Join us for an after-hours pour over training class this upcoming Friday, January 28 at 6 pm. You’ll learn all of the tricks and techniques you need to make a perfect cup, and leave with full home brew kit including a ceramic V60 brewer, filters, a carafe as well as a bag of locally roasted and a recipe to help you brew at home.
