Join us today at the SITE 280 Gallery for Charlie Thackway’s “Build It!” programming event, from 3:15 to 6:30.

“Together we will transform a large collection of reclaimed wood into a structure that will stand for the remainder of the session. It is communal, expressive and free, and as the building emerges from the shared effort of participants, a new light falls upon the gallery.“

Ways of Being
“The attachment behavioral system within our family of origin frames social-emotional and interpersonal development from infancy into adulthood. The exhibition, Ways of Being, explores my personal ethological and attachment model with my father through textile, video, sound, and sculpture with the intent to foster discussion and curiosity toward metacognitive awareness and relational growth. Opening this Wednesday! Removing Mountains, a solo exhibition of Xingrui Xu curated by Yunyao Que.

This exhibition presents the artist’s bold attempts to transform clay into various forms: a mountain composed of numerous curving columns, vivid Buddha heads with deep cracks, and ceramic paintings of abstract landscapes.

Xu’s idea derives from an ancient fable about an elderly man who firmly believes that he and his descendants can remove two mountains through endless daily efforts. Likewise, the artist encounters the force of nature during his interaction with the earthy material. Xu has started an arduous journey to use ceramics to interpret and understand the world.
