Our family is honored to be apart of the “I’ll Have What She’s Having,” Jewish Deli exhibit at . The Illinois Holocaust Museum champions critical conservation and educational efforts. A few years ago we submitted the testimonies from the members of our family who survived the Holocaust. We wanted their stories to be preserved and accessible. When we were approached by the museum about participating in this exhibit, we were excited to share another side of our story. Thank you for this beautiful exhibit and your tireless efforts at preserving the stories of Jewish life!

You may have noticed this picture of my aunt Zyta hanging in the deli. Zyta and my uncle Jerzy performed on the local Polish channel for a show called “Polka Time!” Zyta danced while Jerzy played the accordion. This photo is currently on display at in their exhibit Back Home: Polish Chicago. The exhibit explores historic Polish life in Chicago, and is a must see!

It’s our birthday! We opened our doors one year ago today! Our family has been in the Chicago restaurant business since the 70’s. Before arriving in Chicago, my grandparents were part of the Wrocław food culture in Poland. We are proud of this history, and proud of the deli we have built. Helfeld’s is the result of decades of tradition, pulling from our Jewish and Polish heritage, our diasporic culture, and our beautiful, unique home- Chicago ❤️🏙️

This weekend we are celebrating our one year anniversary! Wow, this year has been amazing. It was not easy opening up Helfeld’s (if you’re watching it really is that stressful,) but we are so proud of this place we have created- with so much family history, family recipes, and our family trade! And of course, we are grateful to you, our dear customers, without you there would be no Helfeld’s. Thank you for your business, support, and friendship. Thank you for welcoming us into the community, we love it here. We’ve made lots of friends and we are excited to continue to make more. 🥳🥳🥳
