Vulnerable share: I have had to unlearn SO MUCH of my education & clinical training to bring my work into greater alignment with my values.
I am curious about what messages care workers and therapists have internalized about self disclosure & the impact this has on our experiences of professional exhaustion, compassion fatigue & burnout. 💭

Grief is medicine. Healing asks for time, space, ritual, silence, tears, gathering. These conditions allow us to process our heartache, listen to our pain and offer ourselves nourishment. Grief is the antidote to hardened hearts. It is a softening. A settling into our human condition.

Slowing down and listening inward is the focus of January's newsletter.
Dani invites you to offer belonging to your wounded parts, through a guided meditation.
Navigate Change with Self-Compassion: Intentions Therapy's January Update I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe we are in the final days of January. The new year can be loaded with pressure to embody a ‘new you’ and set lofty goals... so in this newsletter, I’d like to invite you to drop the societal expectations about what you ‘should be doing’ and to...
✨My WFH Wall ✨
1. Me after my client said “all your art is back on the wall!”
2. “We are not free until everyone is free” from by
3. “Get in g**s, we’re going to therapy” Barbie print by “Change is uncomfortable, keep putting in the work” doodles & an ENBY merperson by yours truly
4. Thich Nhat Hahn quote “We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness” by
5. “You are q***r enough” another beautiful piece by ; handpainted Hamsa, and flow art by me (anyone else love the modality? Flow art is a lesson in letting go of control)
6. 2 antiques that I inherited from my grandparents: Cupid drawing a bow framed in gold & a 10 person bicycle made in 1896 by Orient Bicycle Company
7. My embodied private practice cohort certificate; my state license; & another flow canvas by me
8. mascot 🕊️ the Roseate Spoonbill painted by & a Bojack Horseman classic
9. My pin collection. Stay tuned for a reel sharing this collection I have gathered over the last decade!
10. My home office wall & a mirror selfie wish for peace to you and yours ✌️
A new year is the perfect time to unlearn the pressure and intensity behind goal setting and dig into the good stuff.
How can you drop societal expectations about what you “should be doing” and center into the truth about your desires?
Here are some tips to help you get started:
🪩 if you feel pressured to have everything figured out, slow down and listen to your body.
🪩 if you feel disconnected from your purpose, cultivate space for rest. Listen to your inner voice. Allow yourself to daydream.
🪩 if you feel blue or hopeless, offer compassion to your wounded parts.
🪩 if you feel lonely and long for connection, allow yourself to feel this hunger, and set hopeful intentions for your relationships.
🪩 if you feel overwhelmed and fearful about the future, remember that you are enough right now, as you are.
🪩 no matter what you think you should be doing, give yourself permission to move towards what feels right for you 🤍
The beginning of a new year can be FULL of so much. Know you are not alone.
If you are looking for guidance and support on your journey toward self compassion, clarity and authenticity; I have a few regular spots opening up in 2024 for individual therapy, professional consultation, or relationship coaching.
Reach out at the link in my bio for a FREE 20 min consultation to see if working together is right for you 🤍

A gathering of glimmers from the transition between fall and winter 🍁❄️
On Transgender Day of Remembrance the LGBTQIA+ community shares a sacred opportunity to gather in our grief, to remember trans and gender non conforming individuals whose lives were lost this year in acts of anti-transgender violence.
When we look directly at our losses, we remember how fragile life is. How temporary we are. Grief allows us to feel the full breadth of our human experience. Reading the names each year of trans individuals lost to anti-transgender violence, we lift up our heads in reverence. Grieving as a community honors our trans siblings lost and affirms the existence of trans folks still here, fighting for our rights.
There is real importance to holy days like trans day of remembrance. The necessity of time, space, ritual, silence, tears, gathering. We need to grieve. To feel into our body’s pain. To notice our heartbreak. To be broken open by the truth.
May we find strength to feel the fullness of our pain. May we remember without turning away. May our grief fortify our commitment to one another. May we honor those lost with acts of justice and radical love. May our pain deepen our resolve to protect one another. May our tears affirm our right to exist.
is one of the many beautiful ways that the transgender, non binary, genderq***r, and gender non conforming community has found to grieve together. To gather in power and hold one another in the face immense oppression, loss and violence.
This is q***r medicine for the world. 🤍🏳️⚧️

September is Su***de prevention month & I have made it a daily practice this month to consider (look unwaveringly in the direction of) su***de within the LGBTQIA+ community and to bring to light some simple protective factors and preventative measures that deeply support LGBTQIA+ folks. Trigger warning for info about su***de rates in the Q***r community ⚠️
To sum it up: Suicidal ideation, su***de attempts, and death by su***de disproportionately affect LGBTQIA folks, especially individuals who are multiply marginalized (trans and GNC people, q***r people of color, neurodivergent LGBTQ folks, bisexual individuals and disabled LGBTQ people).
Su***de Prevention = Access to Gender-Affirming community, spaces, and mental and physical health care.
At risk q***r youth are 40% less likely to attempt su***de if they have access to at least one accepting adult.
Simple respect and basic human kindness go along way in preventing su***de among the trans and gender nonconforming population. This looks like listening deeply, respecting peoples name and pronouns, and advocating for policies and practices that allow self-determination (like being able to change your name and gender marker on legal documents).
Think about your LGBTQ neighbors: how can you offer this type of affirmation and acceptance to just one member of your community?
Access to safe home, school, and community spaces that promote LGBTQ acceptance and visibility is su***de prevention.
is the leading su***de prevention organization for LGBTQ youth. & Thetrevorproject.org offers comprehensive and up-to-date research on the ways the q***r community is disproportionately at risk for su***de, as well as resources to support prevention. Follow to learn more about their work and to access free crisis counseling 24/7 365 that is confidential and q***r informed.
Thanks for being here. Thanks for being q***r. Your very presence is a gift to the world. I’m so glad you exist. 🌸
Sending big love to my q***r & trans siblings that are no stranger to su***de. May you feel wrapped in warmth and care. 🏳️⚧️🩵 Dani Sullivan, LCSW

I’m healing from complex trauma, chronic overwhelm, & minority stress. Are you? ❤️🩹🧠
These are my go to steps to support my mind, body and spirit when I feel overcome with trauma I have endured, or intense stress & anxiety.
1. Drink a full glass of water and take a shower or bath 💧🛀 (temperature is a helpful regulation tool for me, check in with your basic needs - food, water, light, movement, rest)
2. Remind myself it’s okay to rest and move at a slower pace. 💗🐌(Here is where I notice myself rushing and take a few moments to slow myself down, and speak gently to myself, offering permission)
3. Find ways to meet my body with gentle movement and full deep breaths🧘🏻♂️🌬️ (stretch, dance, stim, sway, follow a guided meditation or progressive muscle relaxation)
4. Plant seeds of hope and invest in community 🌱🫂🤗 (imagine, dream, and hope. See what steps bring you closer to your desires. Connect with the right people along the way!)
5. Reconnect with sources of love and relationships that nourish my spirit 🕊️🥰(reach in to your people and ask for time, space or support, reconnect with any reminders of the love and joy in your life)
Sometimes we just need gentle reminders. ✨Try these steps and let me know what helps in the comments!
Follow for more 🌸

Meet Me Through My Mentor, Dr. Tina Vitolo, DSW, LCSW 🥹
[ID: The text is about Dr. Tina Vitolo, a mentor of Dani Sullivan, who is described as vulnerable, honest, and kind. Dani is praised for pushing through challenges and gaining a deep understanding of themselves. They are commended for their internal work and healing abilities, particularly within the LGBTQA+ community. The text emphasizes that describing Dani's qualities doesn't do them justice, and even as Dani's clinical supervisor, Dr. Tina learned from them. Additionally, there is a mention of Dani Sullivan being a therapist, author, social worker, and founder of Intentions Therapy. A link is provided to access Dani's full bio.]

How do we work with fear of the unknown? 👀
Sense inward. Look into yourself and try and get cozy. This happens when we bring light inwards and look at our shadows, explore what’s inside us with acceptance and compassion.
