We hope you will join us at Ruth Page Center for the Arts for our 48th Annual Shubukai Japanese Classical Dance performance with special musical guest Takane Umeya from Tokyo, dancer Fujima Yurino from Australia, and featuring musical performances by Tsukasa Taiko, and Toyoakimoto Shamisen. The program includes the final presentation of Ethnic and Folk Arts Master/Apprentice Program recipients Yoshinojo Fujima & Yukio Nang.

The Summer Obon season is done and we thank all of the workshop students who came and practiced; we were ready for the BonFest but Mother Nature Decided otherwise so we will learn two more dances!! Our gratitude to the Hyde Park Art Center, Logan Arts Center, Japanese Cultural Center, and AIRMW for allowing us to have the workshops in your space. Special thanks to Tsukasa Taiko's Noriko Sugiyama for her taiko drumming, and Fujima Ikunojo, and Apprentice Yukio Nang for their time and energy! See you Next year!
We want to express our gratitude to all those who have sent their support and/or attended the Memorial Service for Fujima Sensei to celebrate his life and contributions as a Teacher, Mentor, Father figure and Artist. Yesterday we placed Fujima Shunojo Sensei in his resting place. For those who may wish to pay their respects, the urn is now in the Japanese Mausoleum at Montrose cemetery. (5400 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60630)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the transition of Shubukai (Fujima Ryu of Chicago) founder, Shunojo Fujima Sensei, who passed on Saturday, April 6, 2024
after 18 long months of battling many health complications. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service, however a memorial service at the AIRMW
building will be held on two days:

The legacy of Shunojo Fujima will continue through Ikunojo Fujima and Yoshinojo Fujima and with the support of AIRMW Director Tatsu Aoki.

The 48th Annual performance at Ruth Page Center for the Arts, will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024 as a memorial performance.
