Donations have been coming in which means we are BUILDING!!! So grateful for every little bit! This is the most ambitious thing we have ever built… from design, painting, woodwork, fabrication… we are taking HH from neighborhood display to full blown holiday attraction! Couldn’t be more excited!!!

We received an email today from GoFundMe saying our fundraiser had been paused due to a violation of their rules. We didn’t realize we weren’t allowed to give out thank you gifts! We are going to honor the donations we have already received and come up with a plan on how to best move forward and still find a way to give our donors a big thank you!

Going to be popping on a costume this year and scaring your visitors? Well here’s some great tips about being a great scare actor!

Unfortunately we will no longer be part of the social group "Chicago Haunt Builders" due to ongoing bullying and elitism within the group. This week there were a number of posts by "founding members" as well as admins that publicly embarrassed and judged members displays saying they considered them "a waste of time to drive to." We voiced our concerns and reported posts to other admins and they defended the actions of those founding members who we believe were out of line and in violation of group rules.

Unfortunately we have made the decision to leave the group and remove our house from their lists and website. We also feel the need to apologize to those fellow haunt members who were named publicly and ridiculed, even though the harm wasn’t done by us we feel deeply sorry for any pain you all may have felt and want to apologize on behalf of all the members who see your haunts and celebrate them with you!

Harwood Hollows believes Halloween decorating isn't a competition or opportunity to ridicule other displays. This hobby and holiday season are meant to be a time of fun and community as we share our talents and passion with you all.

This is a sad decision but one we feel was necessary to stay true to ourselves and our values. For those still within the group we encourage you to stay and enjoy the bounty of knowledge and many other wonderful things that community does offer, and we hope you stay in touch with us as we continue to share our vision for Halloween with you all!

Harry Potter stopped by tonight to mingle with the death eaters! Plenty more chances to give yourself to the dark lord before Halloween as these death eaters aren’t leaving without a few new recruits!
