When we speak kindly to ourselves and about ourselves something shifts and healing is invited.

Let’s continue this week on a good note, and release the human tendency to speak harshly to ourselves and about ourselves 🙌

You may not be where you want yet, and you may being seeing old patterns repeating themselves. You won’t get past that by beating yourself up.

You may not be where you want, you may even see old patterns repeating themselves. But you still deserve kindness 💗

Today's meditation session was challenging. One meditation function is to learn how to be compassionate toward the self when we can't see the good. When the mind is returning to seeing only what's in front of us and not intentionally being directed toward seeing the good. It was a good meditation session for Self-awareness and Self-compassion.

Self-Compassion works

Nurturing Yourself with Self-Compassion 🙏🏽

“Self-compassion goes beyond self-acceptance, it has an active element of caring, of wanting the best for yourself. It means saying to yourself, ‘I want to heal, to be happy, to be healthy,’ and knowing that sometimes requires you to make a change.”
- Kristin Neff, self-compassion.org

This is how I spent my Sunday

Seeing a deeply moving documentary, “Your Mum and Dad,” a stunning collage of interweaving stories and secrets. A must-see for anyone curious about trauma as it ripples down the generations.

"I think that parents who are traumatized do on some level ask the child to help them with that trauma. I think that the child picks up on this and carries that trauma for the parent. As a way to reverse or resolve the hurt. The humiliation. The loss and the devastation. So I do think they can become a part of who we are. And that’s referred to as the intergenerational transmission of trauma." (Dr. Kirkland Vaughans, in this documentary)

Individuals with higher anxiety sensitivity tend to be less physically active 10/24/2023

Intensity also matters.

"The researchers found that the strength of the relationship between anxiety sensitivity and physical activity depended on the intensity of physical activity. Low-intensity activities, such as walking, did not significantly impact the relationship. However, as physical activity intensity increased, so did the magnitude of the inverse relationship. This suggests that more intense activities, like vigorous exercise, may be particularly challenging for those with high anxiety sensitivity".

Opinion | Your Most Ambivalent Relationships Are the Most Toxic 05/29/2023

"A relationship in which you can’t be candid isn’t a relationship at all; it’s a charade. Research shows that we tend to underestimate how open people are to constructive suggestions. Feedback doesn’t always lead to change, but change doesn’t happen without feedback. The goal is to be as candid as possible in what you say and as caring as possible in how you say it. As Brené Brown emphasizes, “Clear is kind.”

Adam Grant

Opinion | Your Most Ambivalent Relationships Are the Most Toxic Science shows that seesaw relationships can be more damaging than those that are purely negative.
