Psychologists for Social Responsibility (PsySR) stands in support and solidarity with Dr. Lara Sheehi. Please read our statement that was sent to George Washington University.
"Dr. Sheehi, like many other scholars, past and present, has been unjustly, ruthlessly, and wrongly attacked for speaking truths that others prefer to bury--or are coerced into burying. Dr. Sheehi refused to comply with the onslaught of aggressive attempts to intimidate academics and clinicians into silence about the settler-colonial violence of apartheid Israel. These attempts often amount to gaslighting academics and clinicians by wrongly equating criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Dr. Sheehi’s Jewish colleagues, in a powerful letter to George Washington University, have clarified this difference, and have reminded us of the long and terrible history of StandWithUs, the organization attacking Dr. Sheehi; a history of attempts to silence just criticism of an apartheid state."

Uprooting Carceral Psychology: Healing Justice A Conference with a Purpose: Virtually hosted and focused on advocacy and exploring the intersection of abolition and decolonial psychology.
We are now accepting submissions for workshops, trainings, panel discussions, or other proposals for the second conference organized by Psychologists for Social Responsibility on the topic of ending mass incarceration.
The Uprooting Carceral Psychology: Healing Justice" Conference will be held online on September 25 and 26, 2021. This conference will focus on the intersections of psychology, mental health, and abolitionist and decolonial organizing.
Proposals can incorporate issues pertaining to (but not limited to) diagnosis, treatment, assessment, research, advocacy, prevention, and education of incarceration and abolition (e.g., School to prison pipeline, police violence and mental health, institutional violence against minoritized genders and sexualities, globalization and incarceration). Proposals related to healing and recovery, transformative justice, and community programs working towards abolition are highly welcomed. We encourage proposals that are action-oriented in order to learn about existing campaigns and promote ways to support.
International perspectives, submissions by BIPOC presenters, and by presenters who are systems-impacted will be favored. You do not have to be a psychologist or a mental health professional to participate! Presenters will get free tickets to the conference.
Proposals are due by July 15, 2021.
Notifications will be sent by July 31, 2021.
We hope that this event will allow us to share our skills and experiences, with the recognition that we are stronger together.

Psychologists for Social Responsibility support equality and justice for the Palestinians through the BDS movement
Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice, and equality. To evoke human rights focused change, the BDS movement calls for political, economic, cultural, military, and academic withdrawal of support from the apartheid state of Israel.
Learn about BDS here: https://bdsmovement.net/what-is-bds

What is BDS? Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality. BDS upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.
A message from Palestine Mental Health Networks
Love Letters to the Palestinian Community
If you would like send us a Direct Message with a short Love Letter or a small Loving Image by Wednesday evening May 26th at 12PM. On Thursday, May 27th, members will be gathering all these "Love Letters" and "Loving Images" that we receive and we will try to disseminate them as widely as possible. You can sign your name and your location, if you want, or you can sign "anonymous", that is up to you. Just know that we may even submit a small section of anything we receive to an article that we aim to publish for a paper like NYT or Al-Jazeera.
Why do we want to do this? Because we trust the power of radical love as rehumanizing energies of resistance. Even when such levels of massacres are killing our people, there still remains a power inside of us when everything around us is destroyed. Our people deserve and desperately need justice, freedom, and safety. NOW!! But sometimes, we cannot control all the powers that abound to kill, massacre, silence, and erase us - powers that seem to endlessly work to block our access to justice, freedom, and safety. Palestinians are effectively walled outside of the limits of humanity.
We are writing Love Letters to send across these limits as a very humble action - a little way to work for healing - a small remedy of the soul. This is an offering of medicine of radical love and resistance. A short message from you drawn from your soul will reach another soul in Gaza. Please write a love letter to women, to children, to men or to all of our people struggling in Palestine, and we will work to have them published on local and international sites, newsletters, and all types of social media platforms. We trust that in a small way, these letters hold power, not only to condemn the racism of white supremacist settler colonial Israel that has continuously failed to break the spirit of Palestinians, but to sustain our fighting spirit of radical love for life and justice
"Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Mark Pocan are getting ready to introduce a House Joint Resolution to block Biden's proposed sale of $735 million in U.S. weapons to Israel. We need to move fast to get as many original cosponsors on this as possible. This is historic. There has never been this kind of move to stop a weapons sale to Israel before."
Tell Congress: Stop Weapons sales to Israel NOW. Demand Congress stop weapons sales to Israel.
"The latest brutal Israeli attack on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, May 2021: What needs to be known, remembered, and acted upon."
-A letter from Rita Giacaman, from Ramallah, West Bank, occupied Palestinian territory
In this letter, Rita Giacaman contextualizes the latest brutal attacks by the settler colonial state of Israel, as well as the dignified resistance of Palestinians and people of conscience globally. She poses the questions:
"Why is the world not acknowledging the root cause of the problem: The creation of the State of Israel at the expense of Palestinians who had nothing to do with European anti-Semitism; with millions of Palestinian refugees waiting for their right to return home; with Israeli military occupation and colonization of the West Bank and Gaza Strip including East Jerusalem, wanting the land without its people; with life under and apartheid regime and a choking siege on the Gaza Strip?
What kind of power relations, interests, and balances are underlying many Western leaders and media discourses on Palestine?
And what is it that needs to be changed so that such brutal political violence, death, injury, disability and exposure to psychological terror can end?
And the answers are clear:
Ultimately, the injustice which befell Palestinians needs to be acknowledged and addressed; Justice, freedom, sovereignty and self-determination will have to be ensured; Israeli occupation and colonization of the West Bank, including Palestinian East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, must end;
And Palestinian refugees must return home."

Letter to friends about the situation in the oPt- May 18 2021.pdf
"On March 15, 2021, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the case Freyd v. University of Oregon reinstating an unequal pay case against the University. The suit was brought by Professor Freyd, who is paid substantially less than male colleagues in the psychology department who hold the same full professor position, have less seniority, and are no more accomplished.
The University announced that it is considering appealing to the US Supreme Court, continuing to insist that professors are not subject to the law because they do not perform equal work, and that the clear disparate impact of its salary policies on women is justified. The University’s arguments are a throwback to just the sort of thinking that equal pay law aims to address."
Much respect and gratitude to Professor Freyd for her work on institutional betrayal trauma and her advocacy!
