Oui Chef Chicago
Oui Chef provides traditional (and fun!) culinary classes for children 18 months to 18 years old in
One of my favorite things that I have taught myself to make since opening Oui Chef is fresh flour and corn tortillas. It has been a game changer in my own house and honestly there are few things more delicious than a quesadilla, taco or burrito on a fresh tortilla. This is a flour tortilla rolled by 3 year old and ready for cooking and then to be made into a delicious breakfast burrito.
I just LOVE how this twisted babka dough looks before baking. This is a favorite recipe that hits so many skills for the kids to practice. Absolutely a favorite.
Every now then the light shines in just perfectly and creates this beautiful shadow from our logo on the door. Chef Brady captured this a couple weeks ago and I just love it.
S’mores cheesecake was the last recipe from our Flavors of Summer Session. So fun and tasty!! Now on to our school year classes. Time flies!
Before and after of beautiful savory galettes made in pastry camp this summer.
People ask me all the time what my favorite recipe to make with my students. This is it. Pretzels!! So fun to make and even more fun to eat!
Look at this gorgeous mise en place for our spring rolls today. This sings to me!!
We made these pate a choux puffs into strawberry profiteroles. These were made by 5-7 year olds!! How incredible is that?!! They cooked this on the stovetop and then piped these. Kids truly can cook!! They never cease to amaze me and I’m always impressed how they conquer the challenges I give them.
Lovely Blueberry Galettes from my 5-8yo Parents We Got This camp last week. Kids CAN cook!!
Tart Tian. So lovely and so delicious. Kids CAN cook!!!
Last week as we continued our global food tour, we stopped in Mexico and made Pastel de Elotes. Wow, was it delicious. It was fun to do a plated dessert where we added caramel sauce, strawberries and whipped cream. I had a lot of kids worried about corn in their cake, but they all changed their minds after trying it. Kids can cook!!
This is the most amazing Greek pastry Bougatsa. When I did the test run for class and took the test bite, I literally said “oh my goodness” out loud because it was so good. I love how Greek food focuses on few but wonderful and simple flavors. These kiddos made amazing bougatsa a couple weeks ago. So fun making new things and trying new foods!!
We made hummus, tabouli and pita this week as we continue our culinary tour around the world. I just love seeing the kids wide eyes and huge grins as we pull their ballooned pita out of the oven. So much fun and pride!!
I have just been so busy and have just been failing at posting and we have been making so great stuff!!
Coconut Rice Bowls, Irish Soda Bread and Caramel Coconut Cream Pie. So proud of all the things these kids can make!!!
Lovely, delicious tacos! I had a handful of kids who are mushroom haters gobble these up even though mushrooms are the main ingredient. Love that so much!!
I have just been the worst since winter break at posting. We’ve made some really awesome recipes since then. Here are 2. King Cake for Mardi Gras a couple weeks ago and Swedish pancakes, hash browns and scrambled eggs. Yum and yum!! More to come as I have some make up posting to do.
Wow, the kiddos were so creative in their gingerbread house decorating last week!! We had so much fun!!
Chocolate bowls for the chocolate mousse we made. Needless to say this weeks’s recipe was super fun to make and so delicious to eat.
Not the box!! Real deal Mac and cheese this past week. Yum!!
My Friday after Thanksgiving tradition is to begin the gingerbread house making by rolling and cutting out the house pieces. I got over 250 cut today. Oui Chef smells amazing right now and will smell like gingerbread for the next 3 weeks. I will need about 70 houses this year. It’s a lot of work to make the dough, roll, cut, bake and assemble, but it’s so worth it for this adorable and delicious tradition.
Brownie Graveyards! Yum! Happy Halloween
Monster cupcakes in our one-off class this week. They turned out so cute. I was over the moon!
Roasted veggie frittata in the making
Pizza Party!! These kids made some good looking pizzas!
Pumpkin profiteroles this week. The kids made pate a choux. And together we made homemade pumpkin ice cream and chocolate sauce. This one was a 100% hit. Lots of work, but totally worth it.
Brussel Sprouts were last week’s recipe inspiration, but how do you convince kids to eat them. Farfalle, a light Alfredo and by roasting them until they are crispy. So good! Lots of empty bowls of pasta.
How cute are all these little hands making farfalle?!!!
Set up for 18 kids with JUF making apple cranberry hand pies. What a fun event it was!! The kids and parents were fantastic!
When I started Oui Chef 7 years ago I thought we could never make our own bread for our recipes. How things have changed! I now can not imagine not making our own bread for any recipe that needs it and the kids love that we do. It is so good for them to take part in this process and see how good fresh bread tastes.
Best quote from a kiddo today… “these onions smell like happiness!” Got to love it!!
