Did you know diet can affect your skin? Here are a few ways acne and diet have been linked:
🧁SUGAR & HORMONES- Acne is caused by clogged pores from increased sebum production, dead skin cells and/or bacteria. Hormones often stimulate oil glands. When blood sugar spikes, your body releases a hormone growth factor. This excess growth factor in your blood can cause increased oil production and can lead to acne and inflammation.
🥛MILK- Although cows milk is a low-glycemic drink, some studies found teens and young adults who consumed more cow’s milk had increased acne breakouts compared to those who drank little or no cow’s milk. This was found in all types of cows milk (whole, low-fat and skim). Why? Some of the hormones in milk may trigger an inflammatory response which can contribute to an increase in acne.
🍎 FRUITS/VEG- Eating low glycemic foods such as fruits/veg, steel cut oatmeal, and beans may reduce acne due to decreased spikes in blood sugar. Omega 3s and antioxidants, when consumed together, reduce inflammation and may lead to decreased acne.
🧪 RESEARCH- Although food and diet are important more research is needed to determine the significance between cow’s milk and a high-glycemic diet and increased acne.

My Story
During my college years I worked in a high-end, buzzy salon and instantly felt empowered working alongside successful women. Soon after I graduated from the University of Minnesota, I decided to get my Esthetics License from Pivot Point Academy in Evanston in 2007. Since then, I have worked in a variety of salons and spas ranging from waxing only salons, full service spas, boutique studio spaces, and currently a high end MedSpa. Now, I have over 10 years experience working in the skincare and beauty industry, and am still loving every minute.
My goal during your appointment is to help you understand your skin better so you can feel like your best self, always. I will strive to make your hair removal experience as painless as possible by explaining proper pre & post-care while talking you through the service. I will listen to all of your beauty concerns and offer customized solutions so you can wake up everyday feeling like the fierce human you are.
I truly believe our outer beauty is a reflection of what’s happening inside our bodies. My love for esthetics combines a nurturing for both our outer and inner selves. I take a down to earth approach to skincare and believe the little things can make a big difference. I look forward to meeting you soon!
