How is Safe Families different than foster care?
The simple answer to this question is Safe Families works upstream to support families before the need for intervention from Child Welfare. The Safe Families movement aims to help keep children safe and families together, keeping children out of the foster care system.
While we often provide hosting for children, Safe Families aims to encircle the entire family with support and encourages open and continual relationships with the placing parents, children, and host family and family friends. We believe when families are supported, children can stay safe and out of the system.
Ever wondered the significance of Juneteenth? It commemorates the liberation of the final enslaved people in Texas post civil war. It's a day to reflect on how far we've come while acknowledging the path we still have ahead.
Safe Families is blessed by the diversity of our families and volunteers and seeing God's church come together to support each other, regardless of skin color or ancestry. Real society change happens in tiny moments in the midst of relationships. Help bridge those racial gaps through texts, calls, and hugs. https://sfcms.net/apply/

Fist Bump Friday! ๐ค๐ป๐ค๐ป
This weeks fist bump goes to Jessie! One of our family friend and host family volunteers. When Megan first started at SFFC she saw an email Jessie had sent looking to do hosting. About nine months later Jessie has done many hostings, gathered her people to help furnish apartments, and much more!!
One of the goals of Safe Families is that relationships are developed for a long time- ideally a life time. Not only is Jessie actively friending and hosting for two Moms, but Jessie has 4 past friendships that she connects with, gets together with, and hosts naturally!
Thanks Jessie for living the Safe Families mission! Fist bump ๐๐ป

Hostings give parents time to get back on their feet and allow space to work on their goals. A hosting can last a few days or several months but the goal is family reunification.
When the Safe Families program is implemented in local communities, everyone wins! Parents are supported, children can thrive, and government services become more efficient in serving families.
At Safe Families, we are a volunteer-driven force, fueled by the power of radical hospitality, disruptive generosity, and purposeful compassion. Join the movement and let's make a difference, together!
As we enjoy this long weekend, let's remember that Memorial Day holds a deep significance. It's a moment to honor those brave individuals who gave everything for our freedom. Here's to our heroes on active duty and the families supporting them at home. Have a safe and reflective Memorial Day!
We believe building family-like relationships is the secret sauce that sets us apart! When families have supportive communities, parents can strengthen home environments so children can thrive and stay out of the foster care system.
The beauty of Safe Families is that parents maintain full custody of their children and work together without government intervention. We walk with parents to ensure they are comfortable and informed when a hosting occurs.

Our Story
The trauma of child abuse can be devastating and have lasting consequences for a child. Many instances of abuse and neglect can be prevented if families in crisis had a support network of caring individuals to help them in a time of need.
It is from this philosophy Safe Families for Children (SFFC) was born. In 2003, SFFC founder, Dr. Dave Anderson, found that if loving families can provide a safe and caring environment for a child at critical times, we can not only prevent harm to children, but we can enhance a parent's ability to provide what that child needs.
Safe Families for Children is a national movement of compassion that gives hope to families in crisis. A network of volunteers provide safe, loving homes for parents to voluntarily have their children cared for while they restore stability in their own lives. Our dedication to family support, stabilization, and child abuse prevention is driven by responsibility for the well-being of children in our communities.
SFFC partners with churches, local community agencies, volunteer families as well as government organizations across the country. The SFFC network provides essential extended family-like relationships to thousands of children and families each year.
