“Common forms of palliative care for cancer include yoga, meditation, acupuncture + massage therapy, not all palliative care is medications… Even aromatherapy can help with stress + certain aromas can help with nausea. Those are things most people wouldn’t look at.”

Sooo… exactly what is Acupuncture + how does it work? Most common question I receive-

•Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique developed thousands of years ago in Asia.

Proponents claim it can relieve stress, pain + discomfort by opening up a person’s energy flow, or Qi.

Medical acupuncture involves using thin needles to stimulate nerves in the muscles + under the skin.

This can result in the production of endorphins + a local histamine reaction, allowing the body to begin healing itself, which may relieve symptoms.

Acupuncture is used to alleviate a wide range of symptoms, commonly including:

•aches + pains in muscles
•headaches + migraines
•depression + anxiety
•vomiting + nausea
•low-back / neck / knee pain
•post-surgical swelling + constipation
•menstrual cramping / fertility

To practice acupuncture, a person needs to be licensed + undergo extensive training. A master acupuncturist will undergo 3+ years of training after their bachelor’s degree. They will learn to identify symptoms, diagnose conditions + use correct techniques with needles.

A senior member of a national board will supervise new practitioners. Before receiving a license, a new practitioner must pass examinations from the national board + they must continue to pass examinations each year after receiving a license.

A wide body of research supports the use of acupuncture to treat many medical conditions, including migraines, depression + arthritis.

A 2017 studyTrusted Source found that regular acupuncture could help to prevent migraines + a reviewTrusted Source from 2012 indicated that acupuncture may treat migraines as effectively as other medical options.

Results of a 2018 review show that acupuncture may reduce the severity of depression in some people when used alongside traditional treatments.

📍Please reach out with any questions you may have re: how + where to begin.

I get asked pretty often, what’s the difference? Here’s an article that explains it pretty darn well. Happy to answer any questions. Cheers!

Dry needling vs. acupuncture: Benefits and uses Dry needling and acupuncture look similar and involve sticking thin needles into the skin, but they are different practices with different aims. In this article, we look at how dry needling and acupuncture work, the ailments they intend to treat, and whether they are effective. We also explore the p...

Puppies always help⛩

Housecall to treat: arthritis, neck + shoulder stiffness/ pain, swelling (edema) in lower legs, foot pain (neuralgia), dehydration issues … all unremarkable to Primary Care Physician. That’s when I most like to help; patient is trying to find answers, being sent home with zero advice/ findings. Oh, besides being scolded for not taking a flu shot 🤦🏼‍♀️

PS: the pink area surrounding each needle tells us the body senses a histamine reaction, which is very good, then it will start cleaning up the areas on its own, our main goal!
