Sadly, we have to share the news that Pippin has been returned to CCR ❤️ Pip is a very special case with unique needs, and our goal is to help him find a family who is excited to give him the training and medical care he requires! This big handsome goofball is partially blind, completely deaf, and has a number of neurological quirks. He loves to play fetch, give hugs, and play tug! He is incredibly smart and has been taking to his new training extremely well. If anyone has been looking to take on a very special needs case…Pippin is your guy! He is currently in foster with our Shelter Manager who loves this cuddly boy, but Pip would prefer a home without any other animals….and she has a lot! For the first time in a long time we have a Doberman at the shelter!! This sweet 1.5 year old boy came to us just this evening from Cicero AC. He’s 55lbs of a love and joy, we have no doubt he’ll find a home by the holidays! We’re hoping you can help us find a sweet name to match his sweet face, bonus points if it’s festive! Giving Tuesday helps us take in more dogs like Mia! This little lady was dropped off at Animal Control in Cicero IL, and has the sweetest demeanor ever. However, right away we noticed something was off. She was consistently urinating blood and acting lethargic. After a few appointments with our vet, we realized she needs to undergo surgery to remove multiple bladder stones. She is scheduled for surgery next week!

Chicharron is out of surgery and doing great!! Dr. Gilbert and the team at Forest Glen Animal Hospital are absolutely incredible. They not only provided Cheech with a successful amputation and spectacular medical care, but they gave him so much love and support the entire time. He was even up and walking 3 hours post-op! We are filled with gratitude for everything this hospital has done for us and Chicharron, and for our CCR community rallying behind this little gremlin every step of the way. The next step is to get the biopsy results from his leg to determine the cancer load in the removed lymph node and mass, and we will update everyone as we know more! Thank you everyone for all of your support ❤️

Its a BIG day for Chicharron...surgery day!!! Everyone please send good wishes and positive thoughts his way as he undergoes surgery to remove his hind leg and hopefully his cancer right along with it! You got this buddy, we believe in you!🥰 We will update everyone once he is out of surgery!

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and weekend! We are still working with our 4 parvo survivors in quarantine, which means there is a LOT of cleaning every day. We are in need of bleach and powdered laundry detergent, plus some Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach dry dog food. AMAZING update on Chicharron's surgery plans! We received a call from the team over at Forest Glen Animal Hospital and since they love this guy so much, they generously offered to do the surgery for us at a discounted cost. This means that we have COMPLETELY raised the funds for his procedure already! We are so overwhelmed with gratitude for both Forest Glen Animal Hospital and the community who has banded together in support of Chicharron. The outpouring of love for this dog and for CCR has blown us away, and we are forever grateful to be here and saving lives with all of you. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!!!

🚨URGENT🚨 Chicharron needs surgery on TUESDAY!!
We brought everyone's favorite gremlin in for his surgery consultation and oncology recheck today, and he has officially been cleared for surgery! While we are SO excited we are able to move forward...we desperately need to raise $7,000 before Tuesday so he can keep his appointment!

During his oncology recheck, Chicharron received another ultrasound to look at the suspicious lymph nodes in his abdomen, and it was determined that the initial swelling we saw completely went down and were back to normal! This is amazing news because it means it is unlikely the cancer has spread to those lymph nodes at this time, and we can move forward with an amputation of the rear leg. We decided to move forward with the removal of the entire leg due to the cancerous mass that is taking up the entire paw, and because it has already spread to the rear leg lymph node.

We have been puppy central lately! Between the 4 parvo puppies (who have a healthy appetite now) and the 3 other new kiddos...we could really use some puppy kibble! So far we have plenty of wet puppy food, but are almost completely out of dry. If anyone is able to swing by the shelter to drop some off, or send us some through our Amazon Wishlist that would be amazing!
