If this resonates with you....I see you, Mama Bears. I’m holding you in my heart. You are not alone.

We hope you've had a really wonderful day in the sun - wherever you are - It's been a corker of a day here, down south so we've mostly been basking in sunshine.
The evenings lately have had us absorbed with all things Pathway to Recovery. I have to confess, I've been neglecting my husband somewhat and we haven't spent much time together talking - HOWEVER, he has been given carte blanche over the remote control and has been indulging in his guilty pleasure - The Lord of The Rings/Hobbit movies...
I was busy uploading, researching and testing last night - when I heard these words.... and I made Rob rewind (as if he's not already annoyed with me enough....
THIS. IS. THE. TRUTH.
The experience of miscarriage and pregnancy loss hurt so much because it was real.
Our babies were real. Our hopes and dreams were real. Our love is real.
This dialogue is about romantic love, & the line before the quote I chose is 'If this is love, I do not want it, take it away' How many of us can resonate with that as well?
The pain caused by baby loss is widely underestimate, misunderstood and invalidated.
And yet so, incredibly real.
We see you.

ooohhhhh mamas i know this is not always a priority for us....we take care of everyone else first, but i'll be the first to admit i know i'm going to need a lot of self care & health care & mental & emotional care this month. It's gonna be a doozy. Mother's Day is a special time for most mamas, but this is the first year it's going to be oh so bittersweet for me after losing my second daughter at 23 weeks pregnant. and my due date is/was this coming May 19th.
just know: if you are struggling, you are not alone. you are wonderful. you are worthy. you are doing an amazing job. and you are so very loved.
As someone who wanted a bigger family and lost that second child, this hits home. And it’s a good reminder that while we may have the best intentions when asking....it might be incredibly painful for someone to answer. Also, it’s none of our business. 💛
As we finish up this weekend of story polls, some of the questions had me reflecting on this older post I made with Amanda from
Every weekend as I search through the questions submitted, one of the most common themes I see is from parents wondering about being a “one and done” family.
Some have chosen this path, some have accepted this path and others are struggling with a partner who might have a different opinion on whether or not this path is what’s “right” for their family. It can be an emotional topic that comes with lots of opinions from the outside world.
Amanda and I created this graphic as a way to open up a conversation and allow families to share their experiences, ask questions and connect.
So let’s talk.
Are you a single child family? How did you decide (or accept) this was your family size? Were you a single child growing up? We’d love to hear your experience.
It’s the hardest job there is. Full stop.
"I’m not a celebrity, I’m a worker. I’ve always worked. I was working before people read anything about me, and the day they stopped reading about me, I was doing even more work. And the idea that if you’re a mother, you’re not doing anything—it’s the hardest job there is, being a mother or father requires great sacrifice, discipline, selflessness, and to think that we weren’t doing anything while we were raising a son or daughter is appalling." - Alan Light interview in Medium, Photo by Frank Stefanko
🙌💜
I have a rule that I’ve never told my children. If one of them ever asks me to take a picture I will always say yes, no matter how I look or feel. When they show me this picture I always say, “I love me!” Or “I’m so pretty!”.
I don’t talk negatively about my looks around my kids. Even with 30lbs of pregnancy & breastfeeding weight I will not speak negatively about my body to my kids. Choosing to not avoid a camera, mirror or the spotlight is an extension of this.
After 6 years of being kind to myself for the sake of my children I’ve learned the secret. It becomes less of an act and your reality. You eventually believe the words you speak to yourself.

Mama Bears
I started the Mama Bears group in order to bring a sense of community to new Moms. We started in one neighborhood in Chicago a year and a half ago and are now expanding to three neighborhood groups. Mama Bears offer a safe, warm space once a month for mamas in your neighborhood to gather and talk about anything & everything. We offer support, we listen without judgement, we want to get to know our neighbors and be there for one another.
We also have a Mama Bears Meal Train where moms sign up to bring a new meal to help the new mom & family. We volunteer in our neighborhoods to make it easier for those of us who are “helper mamas” too. It’s hard enough making dinner for our own families every night, but if we only have to walk two blocks to bring a meal, we are more likely to find the time, make a connection & potentially save a mama’s day. We encourage more than a meal service. We encourage getting to know the new mom, bring her a meal, stay with her for 20-30 mins and really see her. Ask her about HER. Everyone asks about the baby. How is MOM? Does she need a shower? Hold her baby. Does she need the dishes done? It takes 10 minutes but makes a world of difference. Does she need someone to talk about her rather than the baby all day? She does. We mamas are all in this together. Long ago, we lived in more of a village & everyone rallied around to support & raise children. We’ve moved away from there now and I think it’s time to bring a part of that back. Loneliness is one of the harshest realities of new motherhood. Let’s sit in a room together and really listen to each other.
If you think your neighborhood could benefit from a Mama Bears group & meal train, let me now and I’m happy to help start one with you.
Everyone wants to hold the new baby, someone needs to hold the new mom.
Welcome to Mama Bears.
