Rubenstein Commons at the Institute for Advanced Study in New Jersey is an unique building that promotes collaboration within the research community. The design team sought a solution that would function both structurally and aesthetically, and precast concrete is the only building material that could accomplish this. NMB Splice Sleeves were used for this two-story structure. Precast concrete provided the owner with a durable and resilient structure, and will be here for many decades to come. Thank you to everyone who attended the Production Manager Summit earlier this week! Attendees participated in interactive small group work sessions, toured the Gage Brothers concrete plant, and networked with fellow industry colleagues. Attendees also discussed real-world challenges and effective strategies for transforming these challenges into opportunities.

PCI Promotes Becky King to Vice President Under her new title, she will continue to oversee all PCI programs under the Marketing Council and Education Activities Council, serve as liaison to local PCI chapters and partner affiliates, and work with the PCI Foundation on its education efforts.

The Western Carolina University Lower Campus Residence Halls in Cullowhee, North Carolina was built with an unique precast concrete floor system. The producer, Tindall Corporation, designed the floor system to compress the construction schedule by considering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing needs as part of the design and manufacture of the precast concrete components. Building Information Modeling was also part of every phase of the project, which led to a first-of-its-kind structure. The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to receive a $9.95 million grant in EPA’s Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products Grant Program. Working alongside the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA), and the American Concrete Pipe Association (ACPA), each association will use its portion of the grant to defray the cost for its producer members to create or update their environmental product declarations (EPDs) for concrete products. Did you know that precast concrete can assist with widening a bridge while maintaining the historic character? That's exactly what precast concrete did for the River Road Bridge Widening over Harrods Creek in Louisville, Kentucky. The precast, prestressed concrete box beams made it possible for this bridge to also maintain the original arch, which was important to the owner. The precast concrete producer was Prestress Services Industries in Melbourne, Kentucky.
