Cosemtic Surgery Consultation Checklist

September 9, 2016 - If you're considering any type of cosmetic surgery, the first step is finding an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon and making an appointment for a consultation. You may be wondering what to expect at this first meeting, and the ASPS has some recommendations about how to prepare for it.

No matter what type of cosmetic surgery procedure you are planning on having, it's always a good idea to write down any questions or concerns you might have. Things like potential side effects and risks, recovery time, limits on activity during recovery time and whether or not follow-up visits are included in the price for the procedure are some good topics to cover.

The ASPS also suggests that you bring any medications and even vitamins or supplements you take regularly with you to the consultation, because cosmetic surgery is surgery after all. A list of any medical conditions or issues you have as well as your medical history will be needed because some conditions may preclude you from having plastic surgery.

It's really important to decide if you feel comfortable with the cosmetic surgeon at this first meeting. And it's okay if you don't and decide to look for a different surgeon. It's your body, and you want the best for it, right? You need to be comfortable asking the tougher questions like realistic procedure expectations or how much experience the surgeon has with the particular procedure you want. You also need to be totally satified with the answers, and if not, that cosmetic surgeon may not be a good fit for you.

So before your first cosmetic surgery consultation, take the time to gather your thoughts, gather your medical history and medications and write down your questions. The meeting should go smoother for both patient and surgeon, and that's a big first step to check off your cosmetic surgery checklist

Get Lippy To Spice Up Your Selfies

August 31, 2016 - Let's be honest, in this age of technology, people spend just about as much time on Facebook as they do face-to-face. That being said, your digital image is everything. Everyone wants to look their best, and not only for friends and personal connections but also for business networking. And judging from numbers released by the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, a record number of men and women are opting for lip augmentation to spice up their selfies.

Facial procedures are always some of the most popular cosmetic surgery choices for men and women. But this past year (2015) some 9.2 million people opted for lip augmentations via injection. That number was up 1000% from the amount of lip augmentation injection procedures performed in 2000. The more permanent procedure of lip augmentation via implants is up 48% as well.

The ASPS report explains that so many cosmetic surgery patients are deciding to pucker up and say cheese because lip augmentation is a good gateway procedure for a subtle change in appearance. The effects of lip augmentation via injection last an average of six months, and by then you can decide if you like the change in your appearance. The procedure causes virtually no down time and very minimal, if any, side effects. If you like your new look, you can repeat the injections or move up a notch and get implants.

So if you aren't happy with your social media image, consult with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon about making some changes. With 3D computer imaging, an experienced cosmetic surgeon can show you how lip augmentation might make your picture speak for itself.
