Modified Obesity Bill Passes Out of Committee 07/01/2024

Access to obesity treatment for Medicare beneficiaries just took a promising step forward with passage of a scaled-back version of the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act! 🌟

The Academy joined more than 30 organizations to encourage moving the bill forward, and commends Representatives Brad Wenstrup (Ohio) and Gwen S. Moore (Wis.) for championing the bill with Congressman Jason Smith's leadership.

A medically tailored meals pilot project gained support in the House in the form of an amendment to H.R. 8816!

“While the amended bill will need to be considered by the full House, the inclusion of language related to medical nutrition therapy and the role of dietitians has been championed by the Academy as a necessary component of Food as Medicine initiatives and medically tailored meals,” said Academy President Livleen Gill, MBA, RDN, LDN, FAND.
