This , we have a riddle for youā¦ What does this little toad have to do with transportation planning and design process in Texas? šø Put your guess in the comments before reading the answer belowā¦
The endangered Houston toad and many of its fauna friends are at risk of being struck by automobiles at common crossing points on high-traffic roads. Weāre talking roughly 7,585 collisions involving animals per year, according to Texas Department of Transportation statistics from 2019. To help keep drivers and wildlife safe, public agencies have been integrating wildlife crossings into their projects, like the pictured roadway reconstruction project near Sealy, Texas. This crossing under the IH 10 at the San Bernard River allows wildlife safe passage, which also protects drivers.
