The Lakeside Pride Pops Ensemble closes its season with a Pride Month kickoff! Keeping with the season theme, “It’s Our Nature,” we explore the spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. We’re reclaiming the phrase “That’s So Gay,” which was once used against us to celebrate all we are. You’ll hear some of our dearest divas (Beyoncé, Gaga, and more), as well as works like Rise and Colors Ever So Vibrant, that represent the energy and persistence we possess. It wouldn’t be a Pops concert without some surprises. Join us on June 1 to see what else we have in store.

Teacher’s Appreciation Day was May 7th. So, this month Lakeside Pride’s Wilde Cabaret presents songs dedicated to our teachers, mentors, and all those who helped us learn the life lessons that have made us - even those painful ones we didn’t especially appreciate at the time. “After college, I was missing being a regular part of a band, considering how big a part of my life it was starting in middle school all the way through college. It was surprisingly hard to find a community band within Chicago that didn’t require auditions or restrict membership - of course, the one that was freely open to all happened to be the gay one! (I swear, I didn’t do it on purpose!) I think that’s what I love so much about this organization - that it truly embodies the ideals of inclusivity, community, and being heard - pun intended. It has allowed me the opportunity to try my hand at so many new things (hello, percussion) without fear of judgement and I am so proud to share my passions with the rest of the musicians on stage and the community.”
