Sparga's Pizza

Gabriel lived an abundant life and lived life to the fullest. His many adventurous activities became the best stories that he loved to recount and share. From serving in the army in the Korean war to scuba diving and his involvement in bringing Christ of the deep from Italy to the U.S or sailing across the globe to helping run Spargas, a family owned Italian restaurant. Gabe was always on the move. In retirement, Gabe found himself legally blind from macular degeneration and yet never allowed his visual limitations stop him from filling his time. Whether volunteering at the VA or with the Shriners hospital, he always had a joke to tell or made a balloon animal to make you smile. He would always ask you "Are you fully dressed today?" And most would look back at him confused, then he would respond with "My pa would always say that you're not fully dressed until you put on a smile. That's what it's all about".

Gabriel wholeheartedly looked forward to Sunday dinners with his grandchildren, taking someone to "the club" (Columbia Yacht Club), his Scotch, a good bloody mary or a margarita on the rocks followed by his favorite toast.

“Here’s to you and here’s to me, may we never disagree, but if we do, the hell with you, here’s to me!”

To our forever “balloon guy” and to the “apple of our eyes”…
