Hair will be professionally braided and there are 3 follow-up visits.
Must be a 25 - 40 year old female and of African, Asian, European, or Hispanic heritage.
Why Is This Study Being Done?
Scalp health is on the decline in our communities. This study will compare 2 hair extension brands and evaluate the health of the scalp throughout a period of 3 weeks to understand the impact of wearing hair extensions.
What Will I Need To Do?
1. Cleanse and condition your hair before hair braiding.
2. Show up to get your hair braided and have your scalp evaluated.
3. Cleanse and condition your hair while in braids each week.
4. Show up to get your scalp evaluated on the given dates.
5. Swab your scalp at weeks 2 and 3 after braid installation.

How Much Time Will It Take?
Before Braiding: 15 min to consent
2 Days before braid installation: Time varies to cleanse and condition hair
Braiding Day: Up to 3 hours for braid installation and evaluation
Day 1, Day 3 & Week 1 after braid installation: 20 min for evaluation each day Weeks 2 & 3 after braid installation: ~10 min for survey & scalp swabbing
1 Day after week 1 and week 2: ~ 20 min to cleanse and condition hair
