Kennedy about current national mental health policy and his latest book, "Profiles in Mental Health Courage." 🇺🇸 Thank you to everyone who joined us in the IMD for this enlightening and meaningful conversation!

Today, the IMD Commission — joined by Vice Mayor and 27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett Jr, Deputy Mayor of Business and Neighborhood Development Kenya K. Merritt, Chicago Department of Transportation Commissioner Tom Carney, and over thirty civic leaders from the City, County, City Colleges, hospital systems, non-profit organizations, community members and more — gathered to officially open the new IMD Welcome Plaza! 🎉

Located at 1900 W Harrison St, the Welcome Plaza is a new public space for the IMD and west side community. The IMD Welcome Plaza features large illuminated “IMD” letters, seating, and landscaping for the public — and will serve as an instantly recognizable gateway welcoming visitors to the IMD and Chicago for years to come.

The IMD Welcome Plaza was one of five transformative projects identified when the IMD Commission announced its historic Bike and Pedestrian Safety Action Plan on March 27, 2024.

Thank you to everyone who made this project a reality, and to the IMD community: we dedicate this to you! 👏

This summer, there are still many students in need of assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be continuing to offer services to students throughout the summer to ensure that they are able to submit their FAFSA or Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid prior to starting college in the fall. If you are aware of anyone needing help with this process, please tell them about this event.

Happy 2024! 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ The IMD is proud of our hospital partners who are leaders in LGBT healthcare and employment — and to be a caring community where all people are welcome no matter who they are or who they love. 💖

This week, UIC College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs students were in the IMD Gateway engaging community members about what they’d like to see more of in the IMD. 🗣️ They talked to hundreds of people over two days, all leading up to our workshop events tonight and next Friday (check out medicaldistrict.org/events for more info). Yesterday, the IMD was proud to host Active Transportation Alliance for a Celebration Station to kick-off Chicago Bike Month and their 2024 Bike Commuter Challenge. 🚴 Bikers were treated to free snacks, repairs, and earned points toward their challenge goal.
