Sowlat Structural Engineers is a world class structural engineering firm, based in Chicago and focused on building design. We offer highly-developed, disciplined structural engineering services that stand on a tradition of high-end engineering developed in Chicago over the past six decades. Our approach is rooted in a high regard for architectural design and a solid understanding of construction.
Sowlat projects are led by our principals:
Koz Sowlat, SE
Robert J. Diebold, SE
Koz Sowlat has a Masters of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree, both in Structural Engineering, from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Rob Diebold has a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, a Masters degree in structural engineering, and an MBA, all from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Sowlat and Diebold began their careers with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1980 and 1984, respectively. In the early 1990s, Koz Sowlat, while with Epstein, served as chief structural engineer for McCormick Place South Hall and for Chicago Midway Airport. In the mid-Nineties, Koz Sowlat served as director of structural engineering at Perkins & Will. From 1997 to 2003, Sowlat and Diebold served in leading positions at Thornton Tomasetti. In 2004, Koz Sowlat and Rob Diebold established Sowlat Structural Engineers. Sowlat Structural Engineers offers in-house expertise and resources in the following building types and areas of engineering:
High-Rise Residential Towers
High-Rise Office
General Office
Health, Education, and Laboratories
Design of Structural Glass
Design to Limit Deflection, Movement, and Vibration
Design Using Three-Dimensional, Finite-Element Analyses
Peer Reviews and Specialized Consulting
Our principals offer expertise in designing buildings that work. We have learned from pioneering Chicago structural engineers to bring analytical engineering rigor to serve Project priorities. Sowlat Structural Engineers’ services use established, principled methods for designing buildings that are simple and economical:
- Design and optimize shear walls using three-dimensional analysis.
- Design and optimize steel structures using dynamic analysis.
- Design and optimize concrete floors using finite-element analysis. Sowlat Structural Engineers provides structural engineering design of
tall buildings and beautiful buildings. For the past four decades, our principals have delivered large, complex buildings through solid Drawings. We are currently providing Structural Engineering for the following projects:
