The origins of Natya Dance Theatre started in 1975 when Hema Rajagopalan moved to Chicago and began teaching children out of her home. Now, almost 50 years later, this home-grown operation is a thriving professional company with a training academy. Natya is rooted in preserving and perpetuating Bharata Natyam, one of the greatest classical dance forms in India. In 2003, Natya made history as the first Indian dance company to win the prestigious Chicago Dance Award.

We are excited to spotlight our next entertainment for the Warrenville Multicultural Festival on Saturday, June 8 from 12-6P at the Warrenville City Hall Complex.

Ayodele Drum & Dance will be performing from 5:00-6:00P. Ayodele, a Yoruba word meaning joy in the home, is a sisterhood of women who recognize the guidance of the Creator in their mission to study, heal and express ourselves through African Drum and Dance from a woman’s perspective. Although from different backgrounds; they are passionate in their common efforts to empower and strengthen the women in our community through knowledge and education of the her/story, rituals, music and dances of African culture. As they exchange knowledge and experience of Africa across the world; those similarities bond them together with internal joy into a sisterhood of women whose feet are firmly rooted in Ayodele.
