How To Stop Judging and Start Loving Yourself 11/22/2023

It's easy to beat ourselves up when we do something wrong. We screw up, we hurt others, we disappoint ourselves, and we have a tendency to repeat the same negative statements about our character or worth over and over. We pull ourselves down when we do this and virtually create an international situation to keep messing up.

Multiple Emotions all at Once! - Inspired Life Counseling 11/14/2023

Sometimes exciting and good things bring with them complex emotions. "Yeay! It's almost Thanksgiving and I can see my favorite cousins!" and also, "Dread! Thanksgiving means everyone is going to ask me why I haven't met their expectations for my life." In the one had is joy and in the other hand is dread. If we could just feel one emotion at a time then making decisions on if or how we show up would be a lot easier! Here's an article by our own associate therapist, Lauren Heinrich, AMFT.

Multiple Emotions all at Once! - Inspired Life Counseling By Lauren Heinrich, AMFT Change is a part of life. Sometimes it feels good, like getting a promotion. Sometimes it hurts, like having to end a relationship. We tend to categorize our transitions as “good” or “bad” and expect the emotions we feel to match. It can really be confusing if our fe...

Relational Nutrients (new layout) - Dr. John Townsend 11/12/2023

Dr John Townsend is the co-author of the famous book, "Boundaries: When to Say Yes, When to Say No to Take Control of Your Life." He has a pdf on his website for anyone to view or download to help them determine what they need from a relationship. Boundaries are meant to keep the good in and the bad out, but it's easier to identify the good we want to keep in when we have sat and really thought about what that actually is. And sometimes we need a jumping off point.

The way we talk to ourselves has a direct impact and correlation with the way we show up in relationship with others. We may allow people to treat us in ways that don't serve us because while we know it's wrong, we aren't sure we'd be able to find someone else who shows up how we need them to. We tell ourselves many things about our own worth or about how others won't be able to see it.

The way we talk to ourselves about ourselves can also make us defensive in relationships. If our partner, friend, or coworker makes a comment that our subconscious interprets as confirming a negative internal belief we instinctually fight against it. The other person doesn't see this internal happening and they're confused when they experience our defensiveness against something that might have otherwise been innocent.

One of the first steps to healing is understanding your inner dialogue.

Why would someone go to therapy for themselves when it's the marriage or couplehood that needs work? Why would they get individual counseling when the whole family needs it? This mom on Tik Tok describes her experience so beautifully!

Our amazing office manager, Shelby Gregory, has been working hard to get us in-network with TriCare and Medicare so we can better serve some deserving people. ILC is owned by a Marriage and Family Therapist with an office of mostly pre-licensed therapists, it hasn't been a priority since both federal agencies don't allow services from anyone who isn't licensed, even if they've graduated with their master's degree and are "apprenticing" or "precepting" under her license.

But with four of them finishing their hours by the end of the calendar year so they can take their licensing exams it makes sense that the office can now support any demand that going in-network for TriCare (the military's insurance) and Medicare creates.

We are STILL negotiating and working with Medicare (they don't make it easy, that's for sure) so we can't help Medicare clients just yet. Currently, Medicare excludes Jessica Wilkerson, LMFT, the owner's, license from seeing clients. The law states that only LCSW clinicians can serve Medicare clients, but in 2024 the law changes and LMFTs will be able to apply and help as well. They are finally opening up and giving their patients more variety to be able to get help! With that being the case, we're able to apply to be an in-network member.

Up until now, we've been out-of-network with all PPO & HMO networks, but it breaks our hearts to turn away members and vets of the military. Therapists don't like broken hearts... so we fixed that issue! ❤

We are excited to announce that we are officially in-network with TriCare West! We are humbled by the opportunity to provide excellent support and care for our military members and vets. ❤️❤️❤️

Jessica Wilkerson from Inspired Life Counseling is representing Northern California at the EMDRIA conference in Washington DC this week. She's lucky to keep getting to know Roy Kiessling! Last summer, Roy and his team came to Chico to train about 30 therapists in EMDR.

Inspired Life Counseling's owner is in a training on utilizing EMDR with Spiritual Abuse. Whether a church has rejected or hurt someone; a family member used the Bible to condemn and judge someone as broken, wrong, or irredeemable; or it feels that someone's faith is shattered because of what has happened to them or someone else who they care about, people are hurting, and in deep pain and loss. This is a sacred space in one's heart where hope and grief live and which are especially impacted by trauma.

People often consider themselves spiritual even when they have no part in organized religion. Spiritual trauma and abuse is about the pain associated with a variety of experiences in the spiritual realm.

It is in Jessica's hope that she will be able to bring healing to her clients and education for the clinicians at ILC so we can go deeply with our clients to help them heal some of their deepest pain.
