Most doctors look at labs from a pathological perspective, meaning they often will not register the value of a lab until it falls into a range where illness or disease is already present. Let's catch imbalances early before they become a bigger problem! I have been anything but regular on social media, but wanted to let you all know that I have another course under my belt. I am a firm believer that we should do our best to get as much of our nutrition through food as possible, but for various reasons, supplements are often necessary to bring a person from deficiency to sufficiency. Many of us were taught from an early age to soothe discomfort with food. While that’s not always a bad thing, it can create a lot of confusion and dysfunction if we learn to stuff or avoid emotions through using food (or drugs, alcohol, work, screens, s*x etc)
You can NOT out exercise a bad diet. Why? Because food is so much more than calories. Food is INFORMATION.

When working with clients, I look at FUNCTIONAL lab ranges for optimal wellness, not just the PATHOLOGICAL ranges of illness /disease that many doctors focus on.
She’s an inspiration! At 70, Joan decided enough was enough. She took her health into her own hands by doing the hard work of shifting dietary and lifestyle habits. She was on blood pressure and acid reflux medication, along with having edema and painful arthritis. She could barely get up and down stairs. She is living proof that food and exercise can be as or more powerful than medicine. Don’t give up! Reach out for support. I’m not gonna lie, this is HARD work….but I would also argue that it’s hard to feel crappy all the time.
Birthdays are always introspective for me. A few thoughts from my quiet morning yesterday …Never stop investing in yourself…physically 💪 , mentally 🧠 spiritually 🧘, emotionally. The more you do this, the more you can give back to the world 🌎. Kindness matters. Life is simultaneously hard and beautiful. Find gratitude 🙏 when you can, and joy in the small things…like the warmth of sunlight ☀️ on your skin on a winter day. We never know when our earthly time will be up or forever changed . Focus on what really matters: LOVE ❤️, family and friends. Get outside and move. Breathe deeply. Tell your people you love them often.

Yet more connections between the emotional state and how it affects the physical body….
Cook once, eat 3,4, 5…9 times! One of the things I love about this time of year is that it’s soup season. Make a gigantic pot of soup or stew and freeze the leftovers in straight neck canning/freezing jars (not plastic!). On the nights when you don’t want to cook or don’t have time to cook, you can defrost a healthy, homemade meal!
These last few weeks have been a wild ride. I’m reminded of how important it is for our health to reset the nervous system after enduring stress. We can get stuck in perpetual fight or flight, which doesn’t allow our bodies to physiologically REST or DIGEST. The fight or flight switch can get stuck “on” if we don’t actively turn it off.
We can engage our rest and digest nervous system simply by taking several deep breaths, saying a gratitude or prayer, meditating, gentle exercise, finding quiet time in nature, taking a sauna, or spending quality time with a friend or family member.
Chronic stress is part of every modern disease.
True story. Epigenetics. We can turn certain genes 🧬 on or off through diet and lifestyle.
Are you struggling with hormonal imbalance? Do you have unexplained weight gain despite doing all the right things, mood swings, anxiety, headaches, hot flashes, breast tenderness, brain fog, hypothyroidism, low libido, breakouts, trouble sleeping, sluggish bowels, and/or blood sugar problems?
If we are to address one of the many contributors to hormonal imbalance, we MUST look at XENOESTROGENS, or synthetic estrogens from chemicals. Unfortunately we are ALL exposed to them, but we can minimize exposure by what we chose to put IN and ON our bodies.
One type of zenoestrogen comes in the form of PHALATES, which are what make plastics soft, and synthetic scents "stick". Think of those scents that stick with you all day long: perfumes, scented candles, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, laundry detergents, lotions, shampoos, scented plug-ins...yes, they are definitely contributing to your toxic estrogen load!
What you can do: Upgrade to phalate-free products, unscented products and/or products scented with natural, plant-based essential oils.

It’s not that more of us have the genes 🧬 for autoimmune diseases this day in age. It’s that our genes 🧬 have been triggered to turn that condition “on”.
“Genetics load the gun, diet and lifestyle pull the trigger.”
Autoimmune diseases are not curable, but we CAN create terrain in the body that does not allow for symptoms to express.
