Chico Yoga of 12-Step Recovery
A 12-Step meeting for anyone affected by addiction, includes a yoga class as well. Check out the event for meeting info!
Hello all you yogis out there! I am a student of a yoga teacher training and am teaching a public class for my teaching practicum! The class is free, all you have to do is bring any non-perishable food items. It will be a beginner class. It is on Saturday at the Yoga Center of Chico at noon. Come and practice with me!!!
Hi Everyone! I’m trying to figure out how to cancel events on this page, but until then I wanted to let you know that all Y12SR classes are cancelled until further notice! There are many reasons why, personal and logistically that I won’t get into. But my intention is to start it back up at some point this year. Thank you to everyone that showed their support!
Y12SR meeting tomo evening!! 5:30-7 at the Yoga Center of Chico.
Hope to see you all there!!!
Happy New Year Yogis!!!!
Merry Christmas 🎁🎄!!!
Don’t forget our next meeting is this Sunday at the Yoga Center of Chico from 5:30-7!
Hope to see you all there!
Hi Everyone! We had a great meeting last night! Thanks to those that showed up.
I just wanted to put this out there and get your opinions:
The Yoga Center is having a teacher training next year, and their schedule has shifted, which conflicts with many of our meeting dates. There are three times during the week that may work for us, Monday’s or Thursdays from 7-8:30pm or Sundays from 8-9:30am.
I realize these times aren’t the most ideal, so what we could do is just move it to the Shalom Free Clinic, where we would be more likely to get the Sunday time.
Let me know please! This is your meeting too!
Y12SR meeting tonight!!!! 5:30 at the Yoga Center of Chico!!!! Come join us for 12-step wisdom and recovery themed yoga!
Hi Yogis!!!
I just wanted to let you all know that we will be having our next Y12SR meeting as scheduled, December 9 from 5:30-7 PM at the Yoga Center of Chico.
I am really looking forward to seeing all of you again, and to meeting any newcomers!!!
Happy Holidays everyone!!!
Hello friends,
Unfortunately I have cancelled tomorrow's Y12SR meeting. I am staying with family and Redding until I can return to my home in Paradise (which luckily was not destroyed during the fire).
However, the meeting on December 9th is still on! I just decided not to drive down to Chico until the smoke clears, due to my asthma.
I hope you are all safe and doing well. My heart is so heavy right now with the destruction of our community.
Namaste
Hello friends, I am a resident of Paradise and am staying in Redding with family until...well who knows. Anyway, I am looking for a volunteer to teach yoga. I normally teach a free class at the Shalom Free Clinic every Sunday at 2. If anyway would be willing to help by either volunteering yourself, or asking around, I would be so grateful! Our community needs free yoga now more than ever!!!
Namaste and Thank You!
Hello friends!
First of all I want to thank all of you who liked the page or shared the posting about upcoming Y12SR meetings! Thank you thank you!!
I also want to remind you of our upcoming meeting happening tomorrow! It’s on Sunday October 28th from 5:30-7 at the Yoga Center of Chico at 250 Vallombrosa next to the Tea Bar.
Just a reminder this is an open meeting, so all are welcome whether you struggle with an addiction yourself, or have friends or family that struggle. All are welcome no matter what your experience in recovery or yoga may be. Our first meeting had people from all different backgrounds, ages, physical ability and experience!
Hope to see you all there!!!
Class went great on Sunday, however only one person showed so we had to recruit a couple more. Come and join us for free yoga on Sunday’s at 2pm at the First Christian church on E Washington behind Chico Junior High, in the Koinonia Hall.
This is not a Y12SR meeting, but it is taught by yours truly!
Hey all! I just wanted to put this out there. I will be teaching a free yoga class every Sunday at 2 through the Shalom free clinic. I have volunteered to do this weekly until they find another teacher who can teach permanently. It’s located at the First Christian Church on E Washington, behind Chico Junior High in the Koinonia Hall.
This is for those that simply cannot afford to pay for yoga classes. Or you can show up and then make a donation to the Shalom Clinic. These guys are great! They offer free medical services and alternative therapies such as massage, reiki, energy balancing and yoga!
Also, if you would like to make a donation, click the donate button on this post! Help support the amazing work that is being done in our community!!
Please message me with any other questions!
Come and join us for 12-step knowledge and recovery-themed yoga! Also, Like our page to stay updated and join in the conversation! Please message me with any questions!
Hello yogis!! I just wanted to let you all know that I have added two more dates!!! The info is listed on the event page. The new dates are October 28th and December 30th. So through the end of the year our Y12SR meetings will be every third Sunday starting Oct 28th, at the Yoga Center of Chico from 5:30-7 (we may be extending the time until 7:30: tell me what you think!)
After the 30th, we will hopefully be having one every other week. I am also working with another venue to make this happen every week.
Help keep this conversation going and share this with your friends please! Thank you!!!!
I think that I posted on here that our next Y12SR meeting is on November 11th, that was incorrect and the event is correct. Our next meeting will be on November 18th. However, like I said earlier, I am working on having one before then. Stay posted....
What an amazing first Y12SR meeting we had last night!!! 10 people showed up, all from different walks of life, different struggles, and extremely varied when it came to experience with recovery and/or yoga. Some people had just entered recovery, some had decades of sober time. Others had been practicing yoga for years, and for a couple people this was their first time ever practicing yoga!!
I am so grateful to this wonderful group of people for having the courage to try something new!!
I would also like to report that we made $100 in donations!!!! Half of that will go to the Chico Housing Action Team (CHAT), and the other half will go to the Yoga Center of Chico for letting us use their beautiful studio.
If you weren't able to make it to this meeting, our next scheduled one is on Sunday, November 18th from 5:30-7 (we are considering extending it to 8pm) at the Yoga Center of Chico. However, I am so blown away by the attendance and support last night that I am working on scheduling another meeting before Nov 18th.
Keep checking back here for updates, and please share this page with your friends!!
Keep coming back friends, this is just the beginning of Y12SR in Chico!!!
Last minute announcement, there will be a class right before ours at the Yoga Center, so we will not be able to go in until 5:15 sharp. Just wanted to give those of you a heads up who like to show up nice and early 😉 but of course the meeting will not start until 5:30.
Also, if you show up late the front door will be locked, however you can come around the back and I can let you in there. So even if you’re running late please show up anyway!!!
For anyone who is concerned about making a donation: This is a free event, we will be accepting donations to help pay our host for allowing us to have this event there (Yoga Center of Chico), and the rest will go to CHAT, the Chico Housing Action Team. If you cannot afford to make a donation, that is not a problem. This is for everyone, regardless of their ability to donate!
Please come and join us for discussion and recovery-themed yoga!!
Tomorrow is Chico’s first Y12SR (Yoga of 12-Step Recovery) meeting! I am so excited to meet all of you that are coming! Just so there are no surprises, I want to give you an idea of how the meeting works.
The first half hour or so will be along the lines of a 12-step meeting format. I will read something related to recovery and/or yoga, and then the meeting will be opened up for those who want to share. Just like any 12-step meeting it is a safe place, and we keep with the tradition of anonymity, meaning that whatever is said there, stays there.
The last hour or so will be a recovery themed yoga class. The yoga will be appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
I also want to thank everyone who expressed their interest and got people talking about this exciting event!! I am so grateful to all of you!!
And remember, if you can’t make it to this one there will be another one in November, and I am also working with other venues to make this happen more often. So make sure you like this page in order to get updates and information about other meeting times!
Can’t wait to meet all of you!!!
Whatever the manifestation of addiction, yoga, with its holistic approach to wellness, will address the unmet needs of the spirit, mind and body. This ancient tradition has the answer to the suffering of life-tested through the ages and available to everyone who wants to utilize it. This is both the entryway and the foundation of all yoga practices.

Finally figured out how to get the flyer on here, phew! This is a learning process...hmm much like recovery and yoga!
Healing Happens, By Danna Faulds
The unseen, unloved, unconscious aspects of my being let themselves be glimpsed in dreams and drive my behavior from behind the scenes.
They rise into the light only when the time is right.
Learning to stay still and not react when I am filled with memories or moods has been a challenge and a choice.
Slowly, these inner knots are letting go.
Old conditioning dissolves to leave me freer than before.
The mystery calls me forward and healing happens even when I can't say for certain what is healed.
Free Event, lots of great online teachings from amazing teachers of meditation and mindfulness!!
Waking Up in the World An Online Event to Heal Our Hearts, Cultivate Courage & Inspire Action
"The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning to bind, join, attach and yoke, to direct and concentrate one's attention on, to use and apply." B.K.S Iyengar from "Light on Yoga"
In Yoga, we bind or yoke the body and mind. We feel sensations in our bodies we have never felt before. We become one with our body. When we do this, we tend to take better care of ourselves. We are more able to listen to what this beautiful vessel needs.
When we concentrate our minds on the body, we are essentially training our minds. This is a moving meditation. So not only is it good for our physical health, more importantly, its good for our mental health. Recent research on the effects of meditation has shown that the mind is plastic, it's malleable, it can be changed for the better.
When we use drugs, and we enjoy it, our brain forms a connection that tells us, "Yes, find more of this!" Neurons that fire together, wire together. We eventually hardwire ourselves into an addiction. Let's start to form healthy connections in our brains! When we do yoga, and we enjoy it, again we are forming a connection, but a healthy one this time! Let's use our brain's capability to make healthy habits!
Over time we become less reactive, with fewer extreme ups and downs. We have healthier relationships because of this, and therefore a happier life!
Yoga is one of the most powerful tools to reconnect with your body. If you are like me and you numbed yourself with drugs and alcohol for years, this practice will create the union between mind and body that is necessary for physical and emotional healing. Please come and join us for some yoga in recovery, Oct 14th in Chico CA! Message me for more info, or check out the event!
