Tune in for the latest in our Spaces & Places series, where we explore outdoor learning environments! Outdoor learning spaces are more than just an extension of the classroom, they’re an essential part of fostering creativity, curiosity, and well-being.
Research shows that students who spend time learning outdoors are more engaged, collaborative, and perform better academically. By designing thoughtful, purpose-driven outdoor environments, we create spaces that encourage exploration, connection with nature, and hands-on learning. These spaces not only enrich educational experiences but also promote mental and physical wellness for students. Swipe to the last slide to hear what landscape architect Michael Haug has to say about these environments. ➡️

We want to take a moment to celebrate Sarah Barry for becoming a Licensed Architect!
Sarah ensures that each project seamlessly aligns the client’s vision with designs that meet both the functional needs and long-term goals of the community as a member of our Columbus team. Her attention to detail and collaborative approach have been pivotal in the success of ongoing projects such as Pickerington’s new McGill Junior High School and the Miami Trace Wellness Center.
“Earning my license was something that I have looked forward to for a number of years, and it signifies the passion I have for what I do. It has challenged me to become a more thoughtful designer, and it allows me to take on more responsibility within the firm while simultaneously serving our clients at a greater capacity. It is an honor to call myself an Architect, and I feel very grateful to all who supported and encouraged me. In the meantime, I look forward to being able to stamp my own drawings soon.”
Congratulations to St. Mary’s on the dedication of your renovated gym yesterday! Jamie’s versatility in all project phases has been key to ongoing CA work with Ashland Career Center and Covington Cathedral, as well as the construction documents for Columbia Intermediate School. "I embarked on my journey in architecture in 2012, drawn to the discipline by its unique blend of art and science. During my undergraduate studies, I primarily focused on the artistic aspects of architecture. However, it wasn't until my internships and graduate program that I developed a deep appreciation for its technical and legal components.
I find immense satisfaction in the diverse aspects of being an architect and believe it’s a field that will always engage me, as there is something new to learn each day. While I am mindful of the potential stress the profession can bring, I am encouraged by the growing emphasis on mental health within the industry. Looking ahead, I am most excited about assuming greater responsibilities, especially reaching the milestone of stamping my own drawings."

This week in our Spaces & Places series, we are challenging the status quo of workplace design, and looking at how we design workplaces to maximize productivity.
The workplace was once focused on flexibility and efficiency, but the resulting design reflected compromise more than anything. The introduction of an open-office invited collaboration, but hindered heads-down focus time. Today’s workplace design trend is shaped by creating separate environments. They should offer open, collaborative spaces for teamwork, as well as personalized spaces catered to independent focus. Compromise is out, and choice is in.
See what Emilie Hart says about the importance of these trends.
