Dawson for the Community
Working with our community to better inform and educate on the cultures here. We should never forget this. Feel free to reach out.
Hello, my name is Kyong Dawson and I am working for more understanding that there are more cultures that live here in Montgomery County. The diversity that continues to be a word used, is simply more than black and white. We have many living here in the county, that bring wonderful heritages and cultures to our community. I will be moving forward in all and continue working with our minority communities as a whole.
My family and I have lived in Ward 8 since 2007 (17 years) when my husband retired from the military. Both our children attended North East and transferred to West Creek where they graduated. I have watched as homes have been built, businesses opened & closed, and traffic continually mount. There have been repeated attempts and discussions on infrastructure concerns, to no avail. We deserve far better than treating this council seat as a "title position" or "part-time". That is the issue now, representation is disconnected from the community in which they represent.
If you are looking for a "grandstander" type of person, I am not it. I am straightforward on topics and believe in fighting a good fight for the whole. If you or anyone is not for it, you must reach out and state as much, otherwise don't complain. I am not a "yes" person, just because.
Doing in our community for me is remaining a humble servant for the most part. Feeding folks when needed, delivering food or supplies to those in need or as a friendly gesture when I can and they need, supporting veterans or newly arrived families that may have a foreign spouse that doesn't know the language or has questions on something, talking to the neighbors and their children (lost neighborly habit these days). Caring enough about the Ward 8 people to step out on this crazy limb and serve.
I have had concerns for this ward for a long time now and see where our city has placed its priorities. Sure doesn't seem to be moving people along and desiring a quality of life for them. Good things have been done along the way too. Rapport is important to accomplish for the community, but being responsible in how it is accomplished is as well. The city has a priority system in place for sidewalks, with schools being a top priority, yet here we are putting sidewalks along Tiny Town Rd (SR236) before NEHS on Trenton (SR48). No fan of building something to tear it up and waste taxpayer monies either. There is NO excuse for not being able to resolve the Hazelwood & Trenton traffic light situation. CMCSS can easily give up the corner and allow a dog leg to match up with Hazelwood. This could and should allow for a temporary traffic light to be installed until expansion is accomplished 10 years down the road. This garbage can't be done because it's a state road is wrong. We have put school zones along it, and the (city) has Spring Creek Parkway kissing it and betting they will put in a light there if opened sooner. This should be considered a safety concern or are they looking for a death count?
Stepping up for any elected position takes commitment but should be done for the right reasons too. As stated, it is about serving. I have stepped up before and run for County Commission District 18. I am first to say that most have no clue who their District 18 County Commissioner even is, much less seeing him in the community, but that too is another issue altogether.
My opinion is just that, my opinion. When stepping into a representative position it becomes the community’s opinion that counts. Now, in speaking with others in the Ward, I would agree it is TRAFFIC. The number of vehicles traveling along Hazelwood is far more nowadays than before, even on a Friday or Saturday night when Speedway is going. Developers continue to build around the Speedway. The southside of Tiny Town from Needmore to Trenton is almost exclusively C5-zoned properties, with R1 (residential) behind that. Kroger holds a property almost at the corner of Needmore and Tiny Town, which will bring heavier traffic to the corner and the horrible school zone there. Speaking of school zones, believe it is the longest one in the county (0.6 of a mile) and really slows traffic horribly. We have Man O War that cuts through Blue Grass Downs neighborhood to Tiny Town and the current TN House 67 representative says that a light won’t be put in when speaking to him on it. Businesses are crammed in along Tiny Town nearer to Trenton and CONSTANT accidents. Now that we have made a loop of the Ward, what is your top issue?
