Grace Period for Free & Reduced Lunch Ends September 24 🍎
The grace period for the Free and Reduced Meal Program will end Tuesday, September 24. If you feel that your child qualifies for free and reduced meal benefits, and you have not filled out a free/reduced application for this school year, or you have not received a letter stating that your child is on the program for this school year, you will need to fill out an application.
Online applications are available at www.schoolcafe.com. Online applications are strongly encouraged, as they are the fastest and most convenient method for families. The online application can be completed on either a desktop or mobile device.
Once on the website, you will be asked to set up an account and create a username and password. Once your account is set up, you will follow the steps to fill out the application. If you cannot fill out an online application, you may pick up a paper application at the front office of your child's school, or paper applications will be available at Central Office.
Your child's eligibility status will change to paid status if an approved application is not on file as of September 24. Please remember that parents or guardians are responsible for any charge balances on their student's account.
You may contact [email protected] if you have any questions.
Parents...here is the district supply list that some of you have asked about. Please understand that there are things on this list that teachers do not wish to have or that your student may not need. There are also a few additional items that your student may need that are not on the list (i.e. personal headphones). You will get more information on what is needed on Back to School Night.
Spanish Immersion parents, Mrs. Nicholas has sent school supply lists through ParentSquare.
SAVE THE DATE! We certainly hope that all of our Bengals are having a wonderful summer! We are looking forward to meeting our new and returning Bengals...see you August 6th!

Fantastic Friday!!!! Fourth graders from Mrs. Shelhamer’s and Mrs. Susong’s social studies class participated in a wax museum. Students researched famous people in history and when their “button” was pushed, they came alive and presented their stories. So much fun!!!
More field day pictures!! Such a great day!
Barksdale Bengals had a Fabulous Friday enjoying our annual Field Day! A huge THANK YOU to Coach Head, Coach Shepherd, PTO, parents, and volunteers for making this a great day!!!!
Mrs. McCoin’s mathematicians participated in a room transformation on Wednesday as they worked as surgeons in “The Distributive Hospital.” Students had a great time learning about the Distributive Property.
Attention fifth grade families! Use the link below to sign up for middle school band and choir. Contact Mrs. Rives if you have questions.
Fanstastic Friday!!! We are highlighting, Mrs. Susong's 4th grade ELA classes. Five student leaders who recently completed a semi-independent book study with her were given the task of choosing a book to read independently in order to conduct a book study with their peers.
After reading the book and preparing questions and a summary of each chapter, they presented a book commercial to the class. The rest of our students chose which book they were most interested in reading and formed their own groups. Each student in each group has one or more roles to complete as they read.
One student is the reader, one creates questions to ask the group to monitor comprehension, one records interesting/unknown words and looks up the meanings in the dictionary, one draws a picture summary of the chapter they read, another writes a one sentence summary of the chapter, and one predicts what will happen next. When they finish, each group will hopefully get to create a theme park highlighting the literal themes and important points of their story.
What a fun activity!! Great job, Mrs. Susong's class!
We are so proud of our Classified Employees of the Year for Barksdale, Spanish Immersion @ Barksdale, and our cafeteria!
Congratulations to Mrs. Cathey Norfleet, Mrs. Carla Patterson, and Mrs. Kim Clowdis! They work hard every day to provide for our students.
Our third through fifth grade students ended testing with some treats! For attendance and if students showed effort all five days of testing, they were treated to snow cones and a zoo presentation from the Nashville Zoo.
We are proud of all of the students who worked hard during testing!
Thank you to Mrs. Walker’s parents who came and made the snow cones for our students!
We love our Mrs. Cathey! Congratulations on being one of the TOP 5 Classified Employees of the Year! 🐯🧡💙🧡💙
🎉 TOP FIVE ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉
Cathey Norfleet ⭐ Special Populations Education Assistant
Cathey has been an anchor of support for students for over 40 years. Join us in congratulating her today as we celebrate her as one of the TOP FIVE Classified Employees of the Year.
"She is the epitome of someone who gives everything she has and is always ready and able to assist in any area that is needed," said Karen Hoskins, Barksdale Elementary Principal. "Mrs. Norfleet has created bonds with many of the students she works with. Students feel comfortable coming to her for assistance and for someone to listen. There are families of students she has taken under her wing and assisted with needs outside of school. [She has provided] Christmas, food, taking them places, etc. She has never been asked to do so, but this shows how big her heart is for the students that she comes in contact with every day."
Mrs. Norfleet's career began supporting kindergarten teachers, but her heart quickly led her to special education. "She has dedicated her energy to the special education department. She forms special bonds with students and encourages them to always do their best and take pride in themselves," said Ms. Hoskins.
Cathey will join the 2024 Classified Employees of the Year for a celebration hosted by the CMC Education Foundation. She may also win the grand prize - $500 courtesy of Clarksville Fencing!
We cannot thank you enough for sharing your servant's heart with our students, Mrs. Norfleet.
Barksdale Elementary School
Fantastic Friday!! Today we are spotlighting Mrs. Davidson's 1st grade class. They worked on text features with a specific focus on bold print words. The students were paired up and decided on a bold print science term from their informational text this week to illustrate and write about, using evidence from the text. What a great hands on activity!
Yesterday we celebrated Purple Up! for Military Kids! We are proud to be a part of this military community.❤️
What an AWESOME STEM Night we had on Thursday!! A HUGE thank you to Adventure Science Center for bringing some terrific stations and activities for our students and families…and THANK YOU to CMC Education Foundation for the grant that allowed us to have this awesome night Thank you also to CDE and our fantastic food truck Big Island Kahuna!
We appreciate everyone for coming out.
Fantastic Friday!! We have had a busy week!
Let’s start with spotlighting Mrs. Wilson’s 2nd grade class. Today they learned about representing data on bar graphs. They practiced as a whole group creating a horizontal bar graph, then broke into groups to create their own vertical or horizontal bar graphs. After they were created, they presented them to the class and answered: What was voted on the most? What was voted on the least? How many students voted? It was a fun lesson!
Our 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders attended a pep rally with the Clarksville High School Cheerleaders & Dance Team. They helped get our students hyped up for TCAP testing next week. Monday starts first day of testing. Our students are ready to ROAR TO SUCCESS!!
What a great experience for our students! Viewing the eclipse was awesome! Very proud of how well our students did keeping their glasses on. We heard lots of oohing and aahhing, and telling the clouds to move out of the way!
Fantastic Friday! To prepare for the solar eclipse on Monday, Ms. Smith's second grade class read an article to learn what a solar eclipse is and how it occurs. Students then made a model of the sun, moon, and Earth to visualize how a solar eclipse is able to happen. To go along with their galactic theme, students enjoyed a Star Crunch afterwards. Great job Ms. Smith's second grade friends!!!
We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to our Bengal PTO for purchasing fourteen rolling table stands for our music room. These help all our students have easier access to our instruments, and Mrs. Rives is so excited they have arrived!
Kindergarten Kickoff was a success! We met several of our upcoming kindergarten student Traditional Barksdale and Spanish Immersion at Barksdale. We are excited to meet them all in the Fall.
Thank you to Dana Evans for providing our Bengal balloon picture backdrop! If you need balloons for anything, give her a call. (Her business card is in the photos.)
Our students were honored today to hear from author, Stan Tucker. He is the author of several books, and he hosts on YouTube a weekly show "The Very Airy Library". He spoke on kindness and respect. He was very entertaining and engaged the students in many ways. He also visited some of our classroom and students were able to ask him question. Thank you, Stan, for spending the day at Barksdale and for being a positive influence!
Tomorrow night is Kindergarten Kickoff for our 2024-2025 students! Please share this with friends and families and join us from 5:00 - 7:00 if you have an upcoming Kindergarten student. Looking forward to seeing new friends!
It's a LATE Fantastic Friday! Today, we are spotlighting Mrs. Miller's class. This week they got to review their standards for the Benchmark test by playing Grudgeball! Students worked together with their teams to answer questions and take points from other teams. They also got to shoot the basketball to earn extra tries to take points.
On Thursday, the students were visited by some furry friends! Just what they needed after their Benchmark test! 🐰
