The hair cycle consists of 3 main phases:

1. Anagen Phase - is the active growth phase where hair follicles are constantly dividing and hair grows steadily.

2. Catagen Phase - is a transitional phase where growth stops. It’s a relatively short phase lasting a few weeks.

3. Telogen Phase - is the resting phase before hair sheds and the cycle begins again with the growth of new hair.

Each hair follicle goes through these phases independently, leading to a continuous cycle of hair growth, shedding, and regrowth throughout the body. The length of each phase can vary depending on factors such as genetics, age, and overall health.

Therefore when you see a lash shed during your wash or when you brush your lashes - it is completely normal and it is a part of the cycle of life.

This is a natural occurrence and it happens to everyone. Our lashes fall out in cycles but don’t be alarmed!

This is a healthy part of our hair growth. In fact, on average, we lose up to 20% of our natural lashes every two weeks depending on our growth cycles, a person can shed between 1 - 5 natural lashes per day.

Fall season is approaching and you will notice your lashes shedding a little bit more than usual and there’s nothing you can do you prevent it.

Some people believe that going days without washing your lash extensions could prevent your lashes from shedding but this could be further from the truth and cause more damage.

Here are a few tips on how to take care of your lash extensions…

After your lash appointment - keep your lash extensions dry for 6-12 hours

Wash your lash extensions daily with an oil-free gentle foam cleanser

With a lash brush - clean your lash extensions thoroughly and gently at the lash line where the build usually sits

Let your lashes air dry or pat gently with face cloth

Brush your lash extensions daily with a clean spoolie

Use an oil-free or micellar water makeup remover

When removing makeup residue - use lint-free pads

Be careful with lint from cotton swabs and q-tip that will get caught on lash extensions when getting to close too lash line

Sleep on your back to avoid friction against your lash extensions and the pillow that can cause your lash extensions to twist and turn or shed

Lash extensions are recommended to be touched up every 2-3 weeks to maintain the look

The sweetest client came in the week before to do a brow lamination and the following week she came back for a foreign touch-up. While doing her brows from afar the lashes looked amazing!

The client had nothing but great things to say about her previous lash artist. I could agree her isolation was pretty good!

However, everyone styles lash extensions differently. Her lash extensions were a little too long for her natural lashes and as I was going through her work, I became aware that this had to be a new set because a lot of the old lash extension had you be removed.

Well — this was the result. I had to create a wispy set to blend in those existing longer lengths and use shorter lengths to keep the integrity of her natural lashes, healthy and strong.
