This summer in Europe, beachgoers with mobility issues will have more opportunities to swim in the Mediterranean without having to worry about traversing the sand. Starting in May, more than 200 Seatrac chairs will be installed at beaches to help vacationers access the sea in Greece and a few neighboring countries, including Italy and Cyprus.

At each site, a wooden walkway leads to a solar-powered chair set on a single track. Users transfer themselves into the recliner and “drive” into the water via a remote-control device that is available at the beach or delivered to their hotel with advance notice.

Once in the sea, they can lift themselves out of the chair for a swim, then return to the chair for the trip back to the docking station. https://wapo.st/415MNIz

Part of the problem with the word 'disabilities' is that it immediately suggests an inability to see or hear or walk or do other things that many of us take for granted. But what of people who can't feel? Or talk about their feelings? Or manage their feelings in constructive ways? What of people who aren't able to form close and strong relationships? And people who cannot find fulfillment in their lives, or those who have lost hope, who live in disappointment and bitterness and find in life no joy, no love? Blake is ‘tolerant’ of being shaved in the shower. It has to be quick and is never able to be done thoroughly.

This summer…we are taking advantage of his time outdoors in the water. He sits so still and does not protest at all.
