There are several new faces at The Sanctuary for Senior Dogs.

Let's welcome a couple of these special dogs who came from City Dogs Cleveland

Rue, a sweet old poodle.
Dorry, an equally sweet chihuahua.

Both are being assessed by our veterinarians so they are not yet available for adoption. For now, they are getting some much needed TLC in their foster homes!

Meet Cinco, a gentle soul looking for a loving home. At 12 years-old and 42 pounds, Cinco is a sweet-natured dog who adores the company of other dogs and cats alike. Initially a bit shy, he warms up quickly and thrives in the company of people.

He has arthritis, which is well managed through medication. He loves going on short walks and does not pull on the leash at all. He’s very fond of food puzzles, which keep him mentally stimulated.

He is content following you from room to room just hanging out but also is patient and happy to wait for you behind a door or baby gate. Cinco does not bark and is house trained.
He is currently awaiting a dental procedure before he's ready for adoption.

Cinco promises to bring joy and companionship to his new forever family.

Old dogs love enrichment, even blind dogs!
Rosco got some homemade enrichment at our adoption event yesterday.

Enrichment is important for all dogs, but especially older dogs who may not be able to go for those long walks like they used to.
There are many things around your home you can upcycle to make fun games for your older pup. Rosco was demonstrating how even blind dogs can have fun! This enrichment tool is easy to make! One toilet paper roll filled with treats and crumpled closed on the ends. Let them root around and pull apart the roll getting to the treats inside!

There are so many ways we can enrich the lives of our senior dogs!

It's the first day of summer!
Cocoa is celebrating by doing some yard work!
A casual stroll in the park, spring cleaning, sitting on the couch watching your favorite show, or even gardening, senior dogs can be great companions while we do our every day activities.
