Avocado, Watercress & Microgreens have the finest nutrient dense qualities.
And if I must say out loud the Curried Chic Peas steal the show while Blistered Tomatoes Feta & Pesto take your tastebuds just new places.
Who doesn’t like Bacon & Mish Mosh Seasoning smashed in avocado? Yea you know what I’m saying….

Hey Gang! We had such a great day yesterday training for the new menu! I am really excited about it. The flavors are worldly, fresh, & just bold!

I dare you to challenge your pallet & try something different. There are flavors from like 6 different countries!

The best compliment I think I got was “Whoa, I’ve never eaten anything that tastes like this and I love it”

As the chef, I have three personal favorites:

Yukisoba Noodles w Poke Tuna

The Roman Sandwich- think Italian antipasto salad stuffed in Ciabbata Bread!

And finally the Smoked ‘Smroom Caprese! Sorry they ate this one before I got a picture! Crossing my fingers Nic from Descry Photography did! She’ll be sharing more goodness the next few days!

Gypsy’s soups start out like this, roasted bones & veggies simmered in our ovens for hours, strained and then finished with fresh veggies, chunks of meat or roasted veggies!

2023 was one of my most challenging years yet. Physically I was tested more than I’ve ever been and emotionally I was burned out from the last few years. The only place I felt well or ok, was at Gypsy. I didn’t want to quit or give up but I needed to figure out the why to move forward and keep going. One of the old baristas stopped in for a visit and coffee. Everyone shouted his name in greeting and he said “Coming here is like Cheers!”

I froze….. and there was the why - my why.

One of the shows we always watched growing up was “Cheers”—an NBC sitcom about a bar filled with local loners that became each other’s family. They had imperfect personalities that represented real life people in the world. Somewhere other than rural Ohio where I grew up.. a place that you didn’t walk to a bar or coffee shop, you drove a car, tractor, atv, or rode your horse. So the show and their lives were so fascinating to me.

I opened Gypsy in 2007, my parents would drive up and spend the day sitting in the window watching the customers, the neighborhood. My Dad said Gypsy was becoming the “Cheers” of the neighborhood.

Years later, John G designed an ad for CPT for using the font from the “Cheers” logo. He didn’t know the history and I had forgotten as years had gone by about the show we spent so much time watching. Until John said “Gypsy is Detroit Shoreways’ Cheers”.

It was at that moment I realized Gypsy had become that place for people. You walk in and you are known, lifted up, served well, and loved. A place that feels not quite like home but so comfortable that when you get there troubles melt away.

I pulled out the old files from John G and emailed him if he could isolate the old Gypsy cheers logo so we could put it on a sweatshirt.

Gypsy celebrated 17 years of being in the neighborhood this month. The babies that were born that year are now almost adults. There are more houses condos businesses and people then ever. I hope that every time you wander in, we know your name, your troubles slip away and you feel loved and served well.
