It is with profound sadness that we share news of the passing of longtime faculty member Tina Cassara. Tina retired in 2020 after teaching at CIA for nearly 36 years and co-founded the Sculpture + Expanded Media program.
In addition to being a creative force in our community, Tina was loyal and supportive to CIA colleagues within and across departments as well as to the generations of students whose careers were seeded by her visionary classroom and studio work. Our community was fortunate to have Tina at the heart of its educational culture for so many years.
Faculty member Sarah Paul remembers Tina fondly: “Tina’s tremendous knowledge of traditional fiber processes coupled with her boundless curiosity regarding new media created a fertile atmosphere within which her students were empowered to take risks and effect change. As a colleague and friend, I am deeply thankful to have learned from her humor, empathy and brazen advocacy for the individual voice.”
To help celebrate Tina's life, we invite you to share your beautiful memories and stories of her in the comments below.
Lights, Camera, Retirement! 🎬 💖
