Sager Fine Art

Award winning fine art photographer capturing seascapes and boatscapes from Maine to the Carribean

08/28/2024

Hi everyone! We’re spending a few days with family this week before Brian heads up to Gloucester to photograph the over the weekend! The gallery is closed this week, reopening after Labor Day. Watch this space for updated Fall hours. 👀

We hope everyone enjoys the last week of Summer and has a smooth transition back to school! ☀️🌊

Getting back up to Maine to photograph this year was at the top of Brian’s 2024 goals. He hadn’t photographed or participated in this specific series since 2021 🤯. Time flies.

This year’s wild weather and sailing conditions did not disappoint and the photos certainly show that! While we work on culling through this year’s race photos, we’ll looking back on some favorite images from previous years.

We’re currently in the process of printing this image from 2020 for a new collector. 45x30” archival print on aluminum. Excited to see how it turns out!

For me, summer is epitomized by sailboats. My childhood summers were spent sailing around New England, and as an adult, sailing remains my favorite way to relax. Whether it’s a solo cruise or racing on a classic sailboat, the joy of being on the water is something I will never take for granted.

What subjects or events epitomize summer to you?

The sea is both friend and foe, teacher and tester. It challenges us, humbles us, and ultimately, if we are lucky, it reveals our true selves. - Web Chiles

I love the angle of this shot & how it makes the viewer feel like they’re floating in the water looking up at Minot. In reality, I wasn’t swimming with my camera, but in a small inflatable (see image 2).

As Spring days draw nearer, the anticipation builds for the return of boats to the water.

This time of year always excites me—I know the dark days of winter are behind us and we continue to gain more hours of daylight with each passing day. More daylight means more time to be on or in the water, camera in hand.

There’s a unique sort magic in creating images that transport viewers directly into something I’m so passionate about, a passion I share with so many: the sea.

This past Fall, I went to the tip of Hull to witness the Northeast Regional Open-Water Rowing Championship. Rowing shells have always intrigued me, they are so similar to ocean going boat designs but also so uniquely different. It was a fun challenge to work with a familiar and also new subject. More to come!

Happy February! We took a much needed social hiatus over the last month and have come back full of excitement and energy for the year to come!

The first quarter of each year is a busy time for backend & BTS work for both the fine art and commercial sectors of our business. In an effort keep our blinders on and focus, we are opening up by appointment (or chance!) only this month.

When we lived on Nantucket year round, people would often ask us what we did all winter. My answer was always: head to the beach.

Whether it was catching sunrise on the Eastern part of the island or following the (very early) sunsets out west, there wasn’t a single day I didn’t find myself at the beach with my camera. It may surprise most, but I went to the beach throughout the winter way more frequently than I went in the summer!

I realize that this seems like backward logic in New England, but there’s something pretty breathtaking about golden and blue hours in the winter. Do you agree?
