Segregating Organic and Conventional Farms? Not So Fast. When organic farms and conventional farms are located near one another, their farming practices can have implications for their neighbors. GMO pollen from conventional crops can drift to organic fields, and insects, fungi and w**d seeds from organically farmed lands can drift to conventional fields.

Our own co-authored an article uncovering challenges faced by family owned broiler (common type of chicken) growers. Vertical Integration, consolidating stages under one company, cuts costs. However, Issues like pricey construction, supply chain hiccups, and legal concerns stir the pot when it come to making these savings obtainable and making these chickens more expensive. Grower contracts, housing costs, and supply chain disruptions pose threats to family farms.

Legal actions happening now in the US poultry industry is diverse. Why does it matter? These shifts impact fair compensation, transparency, environmental responsibility, and the very future of family poultry farms.
Payment System Shift: Wayne Farms & Sanderson Farms shift to base payment, ensuring fair grower compensation.
USDA Proposal: Updates aim for competition, transparency, and fair practices.
Antitrust Measures: DOJ prevents reducing grower payments, stresses transparency.
