❄️TRAVEL ALERT❄️ | Potential blizzard-like conditions will affect the Monday morning commute

❄️Drivers should be aware of a potentially hazardous morning commute on Jan. 8 due to forecasted snow and high winds, which could create blizzard-like conditions with blowing snow and low visibility.

💨Areas of higher concern include the Palmer Divide (I-25, CO 83, and CO 105) and I-70 near Limon. According to the US National Weather Service Denver/Boulder Colorado, wind gusts of up to 55 MPH are possible along the Palmer Divide and up to 70 MPH are possible on eastern I-70.

🌨️ There remains uncertainty with snow amounts, so those who have to travel Monday morning will want to keep up to date with current forecasts. Safety closures are likely due to high winds and blowing snow. If you are able to work remotely and avoid traveling during the brunt of the storm Monday, it is encouraged.

🛞 If you have to travel Monday morning, be prepared for winter driving conditions and potential safety closures, especially south and east of the Denver area. Check the weather and road conditions by going to COtrip.org before heading out and make sure you are equipped for the drive:
🔸 Tires with at least 3/16” of an inch of tread are essential
🔸 Pack an emergency kit with extra clothing, water, food and other essentials
🔸 Once you are out on the road, take it slow, no sudden stops and leave plenty of following distance.
🔸 Give plows space! Stay back three to four car lengths from snowplows.
🔸 Should the weather get severe, there is the possibility of road closures.

⚙️Make sure your vehicle is with the appropriate tires and have a snow emergency kit

These beautiful colors were captured just a couple days ago in Bear Creek Regional Park – one of our favorite El Paso County, Colorado Parks. This is Monica exploring the VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) Trail with her guide dog, Cambridge. 🐶 Things to know:

🍂 It's part of the existing Songbird Trail in the park
🍂 The VIP trail and accessibility components are offered to visitors at no cost
🍂 There is a flat, wide boardwalk with interpretive signs along the way
🍂 A braided rope guides users to interactive signs designated with a tactile rope grip
🍂 There is a Pen Friend audio device that reads the interpretive signs to the user
