Meet Colorado Springs resident and U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Elizabeth Marks, who won silver in the women's S6 50m freestyle at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021!
Marks, who made her second Paralympic Games appearance in 2021, is stationed out of U.S. Army Fort Carson and is part of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program- WCAP.

๐ Shoutout to the Colorado Springs Christian School (CSCS) Lady Lions basketball team for a perfect season and for bringing home their 2nd straight 3A State Championship title over the weekend! That is quite the accomplishment, and you've made Olympic City USA proud! ๐
Also, congratulations to two local high school boys basketball teams for a great season and making it to the championship weekend. The Vanguard Coursers finished the season as 3A State Runner-ups and the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions finished 3rd place in the 3A basketball tournament. Congratulations on successful seasons!
CSCS closes perfect season with second consecutive 3A girls' title, topping Peyton The Lions stormed to their second consecutive state title, knocking off Peyton 58-30 in an all-Pikes Peak region 3A girlsโ championship game at the University of Denver Saturday.

Last summer, some of the best leapers from around the world came to Olympic City USA to compete in the Jump Rope World Championship at Ed Robson Arena. The championship featured 3,000 participants, including athletes, coaches and officials, from more than 30 countries.

The second leaper we'd like to highlight this Leap Day is two-time Paralympian, Paralympic Games Silver Medalist John Register. As a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, Register learned to embrace a โnew normalโ after becoming an amputee following a misstep over a hurdle while training for the 1996 Olympic Games. Register took home a silver medal in the long jump at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, with an American record-setting distance of 5.41 meters.
Today, Register resides in Olympic City USA and uses his life experience as an inspirational speaker to inspire people all over the world to hurdle adversity and embrace a new normal mindset to win life's medals.

On this Leap Day, we'd like to shout out some of the most talented leapers we know, starting with the standing Olympic long jump record holder, Bob Beamon! In 1968 in Mexico City, Beamon leaped into Olympic history with a record-shattering jump of 8.9 meters, beating the previous record by nearly two feet.

The Switchbacks sign a talented player from UCCS | KRDO The Colorado Springs Switchbacks announced on Thursday that they have signed from UCCS stand-out Alex Andersson. Andersson played four years at UCCS. He has a laundry list of accolades including the RMAC Freshman of the year and the RMAC Player of the Year. Andersson is originally from Sweden.

Colorado College ranked among top-20 men's hockey teams for first time in more than a decade Colorado College hockey earned an early Christmas gift by sweeping previously top-ranked North Dakota on Friday and Saturday.
Ray Bernabe has been named the 2023 Rocky Mountain State Games Athlete of the Year, which is awarded annually to an outstanding athlete who exhibits passion and discipline in their sport, holds themselves to high standards of competition, and exemplifies teamwork, positive motivation, and commitment. Ray was chosen for this award from more than 12,000 athletes who competed in 32 different sports after benching 182 pounds.
He is among the oldest to compete in powerlifting competitions, and from 2006-2010, Bernabe holds SEVEN incredible records including five national powerlifting records, one state record and one world record.

Join us in celebrating Eddie Mio's induction into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame tonight! ๐ A legendary goaltender for the Colorado College hockey team, Mio left a lasting impact with his incredible skills and record-breaking saves. He went on to have a successful career in the NHL, playing for teams like the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, and Detroit Red Wings. Congratulations, Eddie! ๐

Meet Terry Miller, a legendary Colorado Springs athlete, who is set to be inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Hailed as the "greatest high school athlete in Springs history" by the Colorado Springs Gazette, Terry led Mitchell High School to state titles in basketball and track & field. He also helped bring the football team to the Colorado State Finals, amassing an incredible 2,785 yards and 224 points in just ten games during his senior season. ๐โก
Terry earned All-American honors during his college career, and went on to play in the NFL. Congratulations to Terry for continuing to inspire the future generations of athletes and fans.
