The US Air Force Academy Cyber Competition Team is a cadet team that competes in both cyber defense and capture the flag style competitions. The team is coached by Dr. Martin Carlisle (Director, Academy Center for Cyberspace Research). Rather, it is an unofficial site for friends of the team. Requests for information should be directed to USAFA/PA.
DEFCON quals are over! After a grueling 48 hours, the USAFA team placed 60th of 285 scoring teams. The DEFCON CTF is the most difficult the cadets compete in each year. The top 15 teams are invited to compete in the finals in Las Vegas, and this competition attracts a lot of professional teams.

Final Cyber Stakes results are in! 10 teams of 3, one from Coast Guard, and three each from USAFA, USMA, and USNA competed in 5 team events. Air Force gathered three gold, one silver and three bronze medals. In individual rapid reverse engineering, Air Force brought home gold. And in the individual online event this past fall, we scored silver and bronze. Great job by the cadets. Now we're hoping to escape the snow in Pittsburgh to be back for classes tomorrow.

Another gold and bronze for our air force teams in reverse engineering!
After a grueling 9 hour long attack/defense competition, an Air Force Academy team scored another bronze. Today, cadets and midshipmen will set aside interservice rivalry for a mixed team event, compete in an individual event and do forensics and reverse engineering.
Members of the USAFA Cyber Competition Team are in Pittsburgh for the DARPA Cyberstakes competition. In the first event, USAFA scored a gold and bronze medal.
The USAFA Cyber Competition Team placed 49th of 323 scoring teams in the Ghost in the Shellcode Capture the Flag competition this weekend. This competition featured a video game, which cadets reverse engineered and modified to give themselves extra abilities (e.g. flying!), as well as more traditional capture flag problems in cryptography, reverse engineering, programming, etc.
The USAFA Cyber Competition Team placed 97th of 446 in the Advent CTF (http://adctf2014.katsudon.org/). One challenge per day was issued from 1 - 25 December 2014. Alas finals and leave got in the way, so we only solved the first 10.

The USAFA Cyber Competition Team placed 116th out of 581 teams in the Hack.LU Capture the Flag competition. The competition ran from 0200 on 10/21 to 0200 on 10/23 (local time). https://wildwildweb.fluxfingers.net/ The competition had challenges in cryptography, explotation, reversing, web and miscellaneous. Cadets competed after classes.

The USAFA Cyber Competition Team battled to 17th of 98 qualifying teams and 53/1195 overall in the NYU Poly Cyber Security Awareness Week CTF qualifying round held this weekend. The competition ran from 4pm Friday to 4pm Sunday (local time). Cadets solved challenges in exploitation, reverse engineering, cryptography, forensics, reconnaissance, networking and trivia. https://ctf.isis.poly.edu/

A USAFA team placed 5th of 59 teams in the MITRE CTF 2014 (https://scoreboard.mitrestemctf.org/users). The competition challenged students to solve problems in steganography, software exploitation, computer forensics, cryptography, and networking. The competition ran for 24 consecutive hours, from 1pm Friday (local) until 1pm Saturday.
A combined team of cadets and USAFA Cyber Competition Team grads placed 52nd of 402 teams in the DEFCON 2014 CTF quals held 16-18 May.
