If you consent to cervical exams during labor, it's important to focus on more than just dilation. While dilation is one aspect, the baby's station and position provide valuable insights into labor progression. The station shows how far your baby has descended into the pelvis, and the position reveals how your baby is oriented. This information offers a clearer picture of labor progress and helps explain the sensations you might experience.

A skilled doula can interpret your labor progress without relying on cervical exams by using their knowledge of station and position to offer targeted support and manage intense sensations. They focus on providing continuous care and preventing unnecessary interventions.

While we support undisturbed physiological births, we also support those who choose to receive cervical exams. If you choose and consent to cervical exams, obtaining a comprehensive view of your labor is essential for optimal support.

Say hello to baby S! This family booked Holeigh for their first birth and not long after discovering mama was pregnant with their second baby, she immediately shared the exciting news with Holeigh and secured her support again.
Her first pregnancy had some challenges, leading to a transfer out of birth center care. Despite this, she conquered her birth, and had a beautiful, smooth unmedicated induction, welcoming her first babe with grace and strength!
Her second pregnancy flew by, as most do! There was a lingering fear of another transfer in the back of her mind, but as her due date approached, her confidence grew, and we knew she was headed for her redemptive birth center birth! After a few episodes of prodromal labor, moments of doubt, and positive reassurance, this mama trusted her body's innate wisdom and found her rhythm. She had a swift 2 hour birth in the comfort of her chosen birth location. Those second babes love to make grand entrances!

Birth is primal, a dance between a woman's natural rhythms and instinctual forces that guide her body and baby across the threshold. Now, this dance is scrutinized and medicalized, with the expectation of complications, leading to intervention and disruption of birth's innate simplicity.
- Induction rates have tripled since the 90's
- The C-section birth rate was 32.4% in 2023
- 10% of birthers experience an episiotomy
- Continuous Fetal Monitoring is associated with an increased risk of interventions compared to Intermittent Fetal Monitoring.

This culture drives a wedge between a woman and her inherent wisdom, casting doubt on her body's ability to birth without excessive interference. It replaces trust with skepticism, turning what should be a sacred, transformative experience into a clinical procedure governed by protocol. Interventions, while absolutely necessary when needed, are often employed more frequently than required, leading to a cascade of medical procedures that can disrupt the natural progression of labor.

Mara has been with us since 2021, and we are deeply grateful that she chose us on her journey as a doula, IBCLC, and birth photographer. Your worth isn't measured by how smoothly or how laboriously your birth unfolded. It's not dictated by whether you delivered vaginally or via cesarean, whether you had an unmedicated birth or required interventions. Your value as a mother isn't defined by the presence or absence of pain, by the duration of labor, or by the circumstances surrounding your birth.

Instead, your worth lies in the depth of love you hold for your child, in the resilience you exhibit in labor, birth, postpartum, and beyond.
