Surprised my mama with a sweet indulgence of macarons, filled with rich, yet light, cream cheese Italian meringue buttercream, complemented and filled with a fruity red pepper jam, for an unforgettable Mother's Day delight!
I made two of these cakes recently for special birthdays - my boyfriend's and my mom's. I used a delicious (accidental) brown velvet cake that we're renaming to suede cake, covered it with black cocoa buttercream and a chocolate ganache drip, and topped it with three brownie macarons filled with black cocoa buttercream and ganache.
Just in case you guys didn't know how to check your sourdough starter's maturity level. 😉
This was for Randy's birthday. It was only my second time working with marshmallow fondant. Not bad. I will try a new method next time for the fondant as it was not stretchy and not easy to work with. The inside is red velvet and fully covered in american buttercream. I tried really hard to make purple velvet but when you mix red and blue into yellow cake batter you do NOT get purple... You get brown and brown velvet does not have a good ring to it. 😆 So I had to make new red velvet and stick to red. This cake was challenging to work on and I really hit my stride about three hours in. All in all, this was about ten hours of work but it taught me new things and it was fun.
Jasper's birthday cake. I made two 2x4 building block marble cakes with American buttercream and airbrushed the yellow. He loved them and they were so moist and delicious! Can't wait for next years challenge.
Birthday cake for my nephew. It was a double barrel 6 inch red velvet cake with ermine frosting. The 18 and barbells are rolled buttercream painted gold. Working on my drip. It's a tad runny. This was my first time though. Gonna be doing another drip on Devin's birthday cake this weekend. Gotta remind myself not to melt it so much next go round. 😅
I'm still here y'all. Just trying to live day by day. 😆 I'm gonna post a couple things I've recently done. It's not much but they were harder and more challenging because if I don't challenge myself I obviously won't get better and better. Gotta get away from the swirly cake tops, ya know. These were also underbaked, then overbaked but yummy nonetheless. I will not be filling these. These are just macaron cookie shells which are delicious enough on their own. They remind me of the taste of cereal milk so I get a totally nostalgic feeling when I eat these. I probably haven't eaten cereal in over 10 years but you never forget the cereal milk flavor because that's the best.
Just made an oopsie. I was making giant macarons which used a double batch of batter and tried to fit them all onto the same tray. 😅 One batch, one tray, I'm the idiot today. They will still be delicious though. 😋 When they're done and cool, I'll post a size picture so you can see a regular macaron versus a mega macaron. Share size, or not, your choice. 😆

Throwback to my youngest son's first birthday. I made a "stack of pancakes" cake. Each "pancake" is rolled and painted marshmallow fondant. The mini pancake cupcake toppers were also marshmallow fondant and they were drizzled with maple syrup. This was such a fun challenge and it turned out so realistic.
Found this gem and had to share. Who wouldn't want this mixer?!

Today was my three year olds birthday party and he had a blast! This cake was a few skill levels higher than I've ever done but I'm not mad at it. Vanilla cake with swiss meringue buttercream and rolled buttercream moon, three, and cityscape. The cake was moist and light. The buttercream was airy and cloud-like. And this is the first cake I've put candles on because my son said, and I quote, "I want fire on my cake." 😅
