The League of Women Voters is supporting the John Lewis Day of Commemoration and Action on July 17. LWVSC VP Lynn Teague will be among the speakers. We hope that everyone will join us at the South Carolina State House on July 17 at 4:30 PM to commemorate the past and mobilize for the future. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act is badly needed to restore confidence in access to the ballot.

The 6-3 decision in Alexander v. South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP allows the state of South Carolina to continue using its congressional map that divides and reduces Black political voting power in the state while increasing the burden on voters who challenge unconstitutional racial gerrymanders in federal court.

The Legislature's lifting of the tax on period products is a big victory for SC's women and girls. The unrelenting efforts of WREN and the Period Project advocating for this bill paid off. And it shows that we can get things done: Not enough, not often enough. But enjoy the win today and let's keep working hard for the next one!
