Here's one of his original songs that Cam Spinks performed at the Black Box Theatre Saturday night.

Busy week on the campaign trail. Met and talked with lots of folks. It was great to hear from you and learn your concerns and vision for our city.

The week-end was especially busy. There's a really cool folk art exhibit at the Shelby County Arts Council (SCAC) featuring the work of Shelby County artists. Thursday night was an opportunity to meet and interact the the artists whose work is on display. I've attached a few photos. Kathy and I picked up an interesting piece of gourd art that is now proudly displayed in our home.

Friday night we went to the Columbiana Recreation Center, listened to Randy Glenn and met and spoke to many nice folks there. You've probably seen Randy at Music on Main.

Saturday began with volunteers picking up trash around town. Thanks to everyone who participated on a very hot and muggy morning.

A real treat Saturday evening was a performance by Shelby County native and current resident Cam Spinks at the SCAC Black Box Theatre. You may remember Cam from his time as a contestant on The Voice. Great show! Limited audience due to COVID19 restrictions but the SCAC did a great job managing it with masks, sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. Live streamed on YouTube so I hope you were able to catch it. I'll try to post one of his songs if I can figure out the Facebook stuff.

Lots to do in our little city. Hope to see you at Liberty Day!

I want to be your Mayor. I have spent the past 40 plus years serving our nation in the military and, in the defense industry, serving those who serve. It is now time for me to serve my local community.

Who am I? You may not know me but, I have been part of this community for nearly a half century. My bride of nearly 48 years, Kathy Glenn Mitchell, is a hometown girl.

Twenty-five years ago, we purchased the house in Columbiana that Kathy grew up in, with the condition that her Mother could live in it the rest of her life – which she did. Although my career has taken me all over the world, in 2011 we finally settled ourselves in that same house while I worked overseas.
I was born in Montgomery, grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Auburn. Later, I spent nearly half my career in the Air Force and more than half in the Aerospace and Defense industry. I am a former fighter pilot and combat veteran.

What are my qualifications, skills, and experience? In my Corporate career I have led organizations with up to 8,000 people, nearly twice the population of Columbiana, with budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars. My most relevant experience was with Defense Support Services, DS2, a joint venture company in which I served as its Founding Chairman. DS2’s motto was “we serve those who serve”. Several contracts held by DS2 were for Base Operations Support where our employees literally managed and supported the infrastructure of military installations the approximate size of our town. The Chairman and Board roles at DS2 are like our Mayor and Council.
My core competencies and strengths are:
• Leadership
• Strategic Planning
• Budgeting and Financial Management
• Organizational Alignment
• Change Management
That is a lot of buzz words, so, I look forward to speaking to as many of you as possible over the next several weeks to explain how they relate to running our City.
What do I stand for? Out of all my skills and experiences the most important is my passion to serve. I believe in servant leadership. As Mayor of this City, I stand for you. It is not about what I want for Columbiana. It is about what you want. I pledge that I will lead this city as fairly and effectively as possible making it the best it can be according to the wishes of our citizens. I believe in honesty, transparency, equity, and diversity.
Our nation is experiencing difficult times. COVID-19, partisan politics, racial and ethnic discord are polarizing society. Our little City can get beyond all of that.
We live in an imperfect nation that was founded on near perfect ideals. In our Declaration of Independence, Jefferson wrote that all men are created equal but, they were not treated equal and women were not even in the discussion.
In the preamble to our Constitution our founding fathers realized the need “to form a more perfect union”. Despite these near perfect ideals, our Country and the people who govern it are not perfect. All the problems we experience today are not because of our national principles. They are because of the flaws of those who govern and those of us who allow it. During the course of my career, I have traveled, lived, and worked on six of seven continents. Despite our flaws, I can attest there is no better nation or form of government on Earth.
Working together, we can make this City and this Nation a better place. I look forward to serving you.
