Interesting read.
"In many cases where another judge might respond to an objection with just a word — “overruled” or “sustained” — Judge Schroeder has discussed the law, and why he did what he did, for several minutes.
“Anytime a judge opens his or her mouth while on the bench, that’s just another opportunity for an appellate attorney to use that down the line as evidence of the judge making a mistake,” said Steven Wright, a clinical law professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who has been following the trial."

I Got a DUI – Now What?
So, you’ve been charged with a DUI – known as OVI in the state of Ohio.
What are your options?
Should you get a DUI lawyer to help you with your case?
Maybe you’re thinking you can save some money and handle it yourself.
Think again.
There are a ton of things that will need to be worked out, and we are here to help you through it all. That’s what we do.
Firstly, we should emphasize that an OVI in the state of Ohio doesn’t necessarily mean that you were drinking while driving a car.
You may have been impaired while driving – a boat, a horse, a motorcycle, a bicycle…..possibly a riding lawn mower.
And, it’s not just alcohol, but driving while being under the influence of drugs is, of course, also punishable with the same laws as under the OVI statute.
By the way, whether it’s DUI, OVI, or OMVI – they are all the same thing.
You’ve been charged. What are your options at this point?
Don’t despair, we have handled OVI and DUI cases in Ohio courts for over 25 years.
You are not alone!
We’re available 24/7 and will get you the information you need to move forward, and put this mess in the rear view mirror.
The first step is to contact us.
Let us know the particulars of your situation, and we’ll go from there.
You likely have the same questions as everyone else – Do I have to go to court? Will this be on my permanent record? Will I lose my license? Where did they tow my car? How much will the fine be? Will I have to go to jail?
All these questions have answers. We can help you with them, even on weekends.
That’s what we’re all about – helping you through the whole process so you can move on and get back to your life.
Make sure you have an expert in your corner, who knows what they are doing.

Appealing a Conviction - FAQ
If you or a family member has already been through the court system in Ohio, then you know all about how stressful and tense the process of a conviction can be, and the consequences involved.
Making the most informed decision for yourself and your family is what matters most right now, especially if you’ve been convicted of a criminal felony offense.
We know that having been convicted is devastating, and the appellate process is confusing for just about everyone. That is why we will be posting a series on appeals over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, in order to make the appeals process clearer and easier to understand, we have put together a web page of FAQ’s on criminal appeals.
We want to answer the pertinent questions that you must certainly have after losing your court case.
We tackle many questions you may have, such as:
Can I appeal both the verdict AND the sentence?
Am I allowed to have another lawyer than the one who lost my case in the first place?
What if I lose my appeal, then what?
Will the Ohio Supreme Court hear my appeal?
What if I already missed the deadline for filing an appeal?
What does a scheduled Oral Argument entail?
Just what is a ‘Memorandum in Support of Jurisdiction’?
I lost a jury trial and was convicted of a crime. What can I do?
Can my sentence get worse after my appeal has been heard?
What happens after I win the appeal?
Take a look at our FAQ page, and if you have any further questions, be sure to contact our criminal defense law firm.
