Igel crews did a fantastic job at the JV Community Center assisting Patterson Pools in building a new dive pool for Jerome Village. Our crew was commended for their professional attitude and attention to detail. Very impressive work to all!!!

Adopting and Adapting to Technologies

Our in-house BIM (Building Information Modeling) team has some new toys. We have purchased two JD470P excavators with GPS technology. These are the first GPS on this model in Ohio. After the BIM team converts the Construction Plans into a surface model, our Professional operators are able to see the linework and gradework to dig extremely precise trenches and slopes. Minimal layout is needed, making this the perfect tool for building footers, long utility runs and tricky slopes. We have this technology on dozens of excavators, dozers, etc.

The Department of Defense and the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve awarded the company a certificate in appreciation of company support of its employees in the reserves.

We missed our team members while they served overseas, and sent messages, care packages and cards.

So happy to have them safely back home, and back into their civilian jobs as construction professionals.

John Igel recognized with highest industry honor.

Tonight, dozens of Igel employees joined the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio in honoring John Igel with the association’s largest honor - the Cornerstone Award. The fourth in his family to earn the award, John spoke of the privilege of serving others and the responsibility to widen our nets to find, educate and promote tomorrow’s construction industry professionals. He thanked those in service with the Company and his family. Please join me in congratulating him.

The Merchant Building aka North Market Tower in downtown Columbus

Some of Igel's finest crews are shoring and digging out the big sandbox that is going to be the basement of The Merchant Building (renamed from North Market Tower). Excavation contract work is getting close to being completed and likely wrapping up late next week at the impressive rate that it is going.

The work started with assisting relocation of a 1800’s Cemetry (a little creepy piece of work) , and then into a design assist contract for the basement excavation and shoring system. Piles were driven, excavation and lagging installed and tiebacks drilled per the plan.

THANK YOU to all the construction professionals making this happen and allowing us to live up to the promises that we have been making over the past 3 years to our Client during the Procurement and Design-Assist phases. You are appreciated and we graciously thank you for all you do on every project.

We planned and practiced and then we slipped our first of many slender knife edge walls at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. With no way of getting a mixer truck to the curb machine for this particular pour we incorporated a conveyor truck to feed the curb machine with concrete! There are way too many people to thank by name but everyone deserves recognition for this phenomenal work! It looks great.

Asphalt Surface course being paved on the Newark Church St project. Outstanding work by this paving crew. This job has been a great team effort by all crews ,trucks, etc. involved. Love seeing it all come together!

Dog Days of Summer
Our crews are building a park for a new residential district in Grandview. The area of the park in the picture is a dog park that has a LOT of twists and turns for the dogs to play on. Today we are pouring a sidewalk that will take you from the dog park to a pickleball court. I wanted to give our concrete-carpenter crews a big thank you for doing what they do best by continuing to form this type of difficult flat work and putting Igel’s signature on Central Ohio! THANK YOU!!!

Great coordination and teamwork setting beams at White Gravel Road Bridge. The delivery of the beams navigated through heavy rain and delays due to being held up in traffic headaches. The crew remained patient and persevered through the heat and long hours.

Kudos to everyone for making a long day go smooth.

Marysville Connector Bridge

The reservoir connector bridge project in Marysville has seen significant progress thanks to the unwavering hard work and dedication of all those who have been part of this endeavor. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved in this project.

2023 Intern luncheon

Our interns made presentations on their summer this past week. We enjoyed their enthusiasm and introducing the construction profession to them.

We are happy to be part of their early career and wish them the best with future studies. Don't forget us!

Damage Prevention Council Volunteer Work
Two days after calling Ohio811 (formerly OUPS – Call before you Dig!), over 40 volunteers from George J. Igel & Co., Inc. and other Council members donated time and materials for a garden plot preparation. Roseland Community Garden was expanded in conjunction with the local community to bring the dream of locally grown fresh produce to the area. The local plots will allow a chance for parents and children to enjoy seeing plants grow and then harvest the fruit of their labor.

Thanks to all participants. We build more than projects, we build community!

OSU Sediment Curb
Today our crew formed and poured 200 LF of experimental curb on Carmack Drive at The Ohio State University. The intent of the curb is to capture and keep sediment out of the storm sewer system. OSU will be monitoring the performance of this curb over the course of the next year or so.

Last week the concrete crew at Heritage Pointe poured a sidewalk that deviated from our usual work, adding a refreshing touch. The team welcomed Carlesa C., who recently joined their ranks. Kudos to the crews led by Brett G. and Ed B. for their diligent efforts and meticulousness in ensuring quality work.

Reynoldsburg Library
Our customer commended the teamwork and professionalism exhibited by the crews that worked on the Reynoldsburg Library Project. Job well done by all that worked on this project!

The crews involved did an outstanding job, and we extend our gratitude to Jason D. and his team for their remarkable work on the hardscapes. We also want to acknowledge the efforts of Luke T. and the concrete finishers/labors team who placed the paver base and sidewalk, which turned out exceptionally well!

Byxbe Building D SOG Pour

The Igel 31Z is the perfect pump for setting up in low clearance applications. The crew led by Bo S. and Doug S. started pouring the 300 yard, 11,000 SF pour at 5AM this morning. Two more pours will complete the building for a total of about 30,000 SF. Thanks to everyone involved that helped get this pour ready.

The crews have all worked very hard the past couple weeks on getting this together and it all finished very well! Special thanks to Homer S., Jeremy W., Michael C., Kevin H., Jason D. and all their crews to make this very particular visual impression on patients and their families that are coming to Children’s Hospital a better, more comfortable experience!

This little guy has been keeping a close eye on our crew at a Columbus sewer project. He has become an integral part of our team.

Who wouldn’t want to be part of a nice professional team, digging in the dirt, operating big machines and building something new? Everyday.

The crew asked to gear him up with Junior PPE and Igel SWAG. Can’t help but smile.
