College Democrats at Ohio State

Yesterday the OSU Dems hosted our very first meeting of the year!! If you missed out on the fun, don’t worry— we’re hosting another meeting next week!! On Wednesday at 7:30, be at Page Hall room 10 to hear from a panel of professionals who work in campaigns!

For today’s installment of Meet the Exec, we’re introducing our Political Director Cordelia Van der Veer (she/her)! Cordelia is a third-year studying Political Science and Public Policy Analysis. Her fun fact is that she has done O-H-I-O with a member of Congress!

Today we are introducing our new Communications Director Killian Hoyt (he/him). Killian is a second-year studying Political Science! His fun fact is that he is allergic to the sun.

It will be a BRAT November.

Our summer Member Spotlight goes to the ONE and ONLY Josh Hickman! Josh has quite the resume so buckle up!

Josh is currently participating in the WAIP program in Washington D.C through OSU where he is interning for U.S Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. Additionally, Josh is going to be a Delegate for Ohio's 3rd Congressional District at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago! Josh also serves as the Columbus Ward 41 (campus area) FCDP Central Committeeman, At OSU, Josh is an Off-Campus living Senator.

Fun Fact: Josh has swam with both manatees and dolphins🐬🐟

We are so proud of you Josh and we can not wait to cheer you on at the Convention in August!

A great semester to be an OSU College Dem!! We kept busy this semester by hosting many local and state level politicians, traveling to Kentucky to canvas for Governor Beshear, hosting and participating in efforts for Issue 1, attending many fundraisers and other political events, and of course spending quality time together! We hope you all enjoy your winter break as we go into a very important year ready to make a difference!

Congratulations and good luck to our graduating seniors: Nick, Zach, Calvin, and Hayley! Thank you for everything you all have done for Dems! You will be greatly missed as you continue your journeys!

It’s time for our yearly Exec Board Election!! Join us Wednesday at 7:30pm in Page Hall 020 to vote for our upcoming 2024 OSU Dems Exec Board!

Join us Wednesday to celebrate Demsgiving! We’ll be playing Kahoot, having some fun group discussions, and of course, pumpkin pie! We’ll be meeting in Page Hall 020 at 7:30pm Wednesday!

We had some HUGE victories last night!! Join us tonight to recap our wins both in Ohio & nationwide and what it means for Ohio Democrats going forward!

Additionally, we’ll be going over the many positions open in our upcoming Exec Board Election and choosing our 2023 Elections Coordinator! If youre interested in running for a position in the club, make sure you show up!

It’s Election Day!! Join us tomorrow to discuss tonight’s results and to learn about our upcoming Exec Board election! We’ll also be picking our Elections Coordinator tomorrow, which anyone can run for!

Election Day is TUESDAY!! Here’s a quick guide of where to vote on and off campus! Just a reminder, if you’re not registered to vote in Columbus, you’ll need to vote in your home county! If you need help finding your polling location, DM us and we’ll find it for you!

Join us tomorrow for a short documentary on Rosemary Ketchum, West Virginia’s first openly-transgender elected official! The documentary is an inspiring and insightful way to learn about the process of running for local office in rural/small towns as an LGBT+ person. Additionally, she is originally from Ohio and her community shares many cultural & political similarities with our Appalachian Ohio communities!

After the meeting, we’ll also be going to get food at Bibibop/Chipotle 👀

This week we’ll be joined by Mayor of Columbus Andrew Ginther to discuss his re-election campaign and experience serving as mayor of America’s 14th largest city! This is a great opportunity to learn more about city-level government/politics, especially here in Columbus! As always, we’ll meet Wednesday at 7:30pm in Page Hall 020!

Tonight we will be joined by Pro-Choice Ohio to discuss November’s Issue 1 referendum and the status of reproductive rights in Ohio! We will be meeting at 7:30pm in Page Hall 020. We’ll also be going over some info about our annual Halloween Party!👀🎃

Time to get your costumes ready! Our annual OSU Dems Halloween Party is right around the corner, next Thursday Oct 26th at 8:00pm! Anyone over 18 is welcome to attend (21+ for alcohol)! We’ll have a $5 cover charge & will be providing snacks and drinks for attendees - we’ll also be having a costume contest!! Feel free to bring your friends along as well, we can’t wait to see everyone’s creative costumes!

We had a big week at OSU Dems!! This weekend, we roadtripped down to Louisville, where we knocked over 1,200 doors to help re-elect Governor Andy Beshear this November! We also got the chance to speak with Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo about stare-level Democratic politics on Wednesday!

Big News!! This week we’ll be joined by Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo! Come learn about her experience serving as our party’s leader in the State Legislature this Wednesday at 7:30pm in Page Hall 020!

This week we will be meeting on THURSDAY at 6:30pm instead of Wednesday! We’ll be phonebanking to help restore abortion rights in Ohio - we need all hands on deck to help turn out and educate voters about Issue One this November!

Happy Pride Month everybody!

Thanks everyone for another amazing semester of OSU Dems! We did a ton of cool things this semester, including meeting with a delegation from the Finnish Embassy, hosting several local & state level politicians, and participating in a debate with College Republicans! We hope you all have a great summer break and we can’t wait for you guys to see everything we have planned for this fall!
