Today you get to hear from my longtime gal pal as she shares about her two cesarean birth experiences. Link in comments below.

According to data from the CDC, there were 3,661,220 births in 2022. Of those births, 32.2% were cesarean deliveries. That's nearly 1/3 of all babies born in this country - or 1,178,912 to give a more exact figure.

More than ONE MILLION babies were born via cesarean that year. This type of birth is happening everywhere and is obviously a very popular way for a family to welcome a child.

Were they all truly medically necessary? We can't know that for sure, but I will confidently say that no, they weren't all true medical emergencies. But that doesn't matter. Cesarean is a very real, very valid form of delivery, and thousands of birthing people have them each month.

Ivory, Ernest, and 2 ½ year-old Zamya.

I have the honor of being their doula for their second pregnancy as they plan for a baby boy that's expected in another month or so.
〰
On the evening of Wednesday, April 3rd, Ernest suffered a sudden, life-threatening brain aneurysm and has been hospitalized, on a ventilator, and in a coma ever since. His condition has been very touch and go over the last several days, but he is stable as of right now. As long as he remains stable, surgery is set for Wednesday of this week to repair the aneurysm.
