🔥HEAT WAVE🔥

📻Stay tuned to your local weather throughout the week.
⚠️Reminder: NEVER leave children, pets or those vulnerable to the heat unattended in a parked car! NOT EVEN FOR A MINUTE! The consequences are deadly!!!

✅Safety Tips
• Find places with air conditioning. Libraries, shopping malls, and community centers can provide a cool place to take a break from the heat. Visit nj211.org or dial 2-1-1 or text your zip code to 898211 to find a cooling center near you.
• If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.
• Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. If you or someone you care for is on a special diet, ask a doctor how best to accommodate it.
• Do not use electric fans when the temperature outside is more than 95 degrees, as this could increase the risk of heat-related illness. Fans create air flow and a false sense of comfort, but do not reduce body temperature.
• Avoid high-energy activities.
• Check yourself, family members, and neighbors for signs of heat-related illness.
• Excessive heat can also cause power outages. Learn what to do before, during, and after a power outage by visiting ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/power-outages.shtml

Save the Date!

Photos from Mansfield Township Ambulance Corps's post 06/20/2024

Our CPR instructors were at Fernbrook Farms today teaching some of their new summer camp counselors CPR/First Aid. They even managed to teach a few new 2 and 4 legged friends!!

06/17/2024

HOW TO STAY SAFE DURING EXCESSIVE HEAT EVENTS
Outdoor Activities
Slow down. Reduce, eliminate, or reschedule strenuous activities until the coolest time of the day. Those particularly vulnerable to heat such as children, infants, older adults (especially those who have preexisting diseases, take certain medications, living alone or with limited mobility), those with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women should stay in the coolest available place, not necessarily indoors.
Dress for summer. Wear lightweight, loose fitting, light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight.
Minimize direct exposure to the sun. Sunburn reduces your body's ability to dissipate heat.
Eating and Drinking
Eat light, cool, easy-to-digest foods such as fruit or salads. If you pack food, put it in a cooler or carry an ice pack. Don't leave it sitting in the sun. Meats and dairy products can spoil quickly in hot weather.
Drink plenty of water (not very cold), non-alcoholic and decaffeinated fluids, even if you don't feel thirsty. If you are on a fluid-restrictive diet or have a problem with fluid retention, consult a physician before increasing consumption of fluids.
Do not take salt tablets unless specified by a physician.
Cooling Down
Use air conditioners or spend time in air-conditioned locations such as malls and libraries.
Use portable electric fans to exhaust hot air form rooms or draw in cooler air.
Do not direct the flow of portable fans towards yourself when room temperature is hotter than 90° F. The dry blowing air will dehydrate you faster, endangering your health.
Take a cool bath or shower.

National EMS Week is nearly here, and the Burlington County Commissioners are teaming with the Burlington County EMS Chief’s Association and Rowan College at Burlington County’s paramedic science degree program to celebrate in a very big way.

Residents of all ages are invited to attend a special EMS Week Celebration on Saturday, May 18, from 11 AM to 3 PM, at the Burlington County Emergency Services Training Center, 53 Academy Drive, Westampton.

During the event, visitors will have opportunities to meet local emergency medical service professionals, learn about the services they perform, and the education and training required to become an emergency medical technician or paramedic. The event will also feature displays of EMS, police and fire equipment and vehicles and demonstrations of emergency response activities, including air medical helicopter evacuations, CPR and stop the bleed techniques.

There will also be information tables related to health and health care programs, safety and education programs. Free child car seat safety checks by the Burlington County Sheriff's Office and health screenings will also be offered, and the Burlington County Animal Shelter will also be on site with information about adoption and foster programs.

“Every day, Burlington County residents rely upon the dedication, skill and courage of first responders. These heroes work tirelessly, going where and when they’re needed to provide whatever assistance is possible,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “EMS Day will provide opportunities for residents to meet these essential heroes and learn more about what they do. It’s a great opportunity for people interested in a career in EMS, but we’re encouraging others to come and thank our first responders.”

In coordination with the Mansfield Township Ambulance Corps and Mansfield Township Office of Emergency Management, AED cabinets have been installed at Mansfield Community Park, Georgetown Park (Mapleton), and Civic Club. The cabinet unlock codes have been registered with 911 for members of the public who may need to access the contents in an emergency situation. Upon calling 911 and identifying the cabinet location, the dispatcher will provide the code and further instructions.

Each cabinet contains an AED unit with adult and pediatric pads, Narcan for use in an expected overdose, and a Stop the Bleed kit. Stop the Bleed kits are intended for accidents with severe bleeding and blood loss. Learn more at https://www.stopthebleed.org.

Mansfield Township Ambulance Corps will offer free classes on proper use of this equipment in the near future. All residents are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Cabinets and contents were purchased with funding provided through the Emergency Management Agency Assistance (EMAA) Grant Program NJ.
