A former member of the Ohio Military Reserve recently passed way. The former 1LT Janet Auber (Deskins), served as a registered nurse with the 3rd Medical Detachment 2014-2018. Her husband, COL (Ret) Robert Auber, who is retired from the OHMR, asked that the information out go to our members so that any of our members who knew her could attend her memorial service if they were available and wished to do so.

COL Deano McNeil has announced terrible news that 1LT Valentina Lucic, 1BN S1, is hospitalized and that her husband, former OHMR Soldier SGT Velimir Lucic has died in an incident early New Years Day. Soldiers who would like to voluntarily assist the family at this most difficult time may do so through this mechanism.

The 7th UASunderwent SARTECH II certification training under the auspices of National American Search and Rescue (NASAR) which includes both classroom instruction in “best practices” of wilderness rescue procedures and field training in land navigation & survival techniques. The 1st BN held a Christmas luncheon recently, with the support of the State Guard Association of Ohio whose donation will help fund meals for the homeless courtesy of CPT Matthew Reed, whose Sub Station was used for the event Soldiers enjoyed a meal with COL McNeil, retired OHMR Soldiers, and family present. A traditional military toast was raised to the health of all.

The 7th UAS took advantage of early darkness by completing night flight sorties in the field. Taking off from an improvised flightline (see associated article) an aircrew would seek out heat signatures as small as a cup of coffee with "Wilbur's" (a VR Vesper) onboard infrared camera. When a target was found, a second aircrew would fly to intercept with "Gladius'" (a DJI Mavic 3) onboard LED flood lights, illuminate the area, then stream high-definition footage back to basecamp. This allowed search and rescue ops to continue well into the night. The training provided the next level of challenge for many new pilots of the 7th UAS.
